We have a vacancy for a mechanically trained person. Our contract is to maintain rail wagon frames that are fitted to our clients 94 rail wagons for transporting long products. We need reliability and someone who is conscientious with attention to detail.
A trained mechanical fitter / multi-skilled mechanical person required to integrate into our team. We will require proof of competence to include any training certification and an up to date CV identifying your employment history as a minimum.
Good engineering knowledge is required, the ability to work with and understand torque settings, safe use of power tools, competence in slinging and rigging and hand signals etc. You will be working mainly outdoors all year and need to be fit and agile as some of the work is underneath the rail wagons. We work 08:00 - 15:30 and you will be paid 35 hours a week. The work is carrying out repairs to the wagon decks (timber),along with the frames and ancillary equipment, repairing any damage along with setting trains up to carry long lengths of rail. This involves accurate measuring, cutting and drilling of wooden deck boards, fitting and removing the frames from wagons utilising a tele-handler. You will need to be conversant and competent working with power tools - electric drills and circular saws, grinders, impact wrenches etc. and mix well with others in the team.
Computer literacy will be required as you may be requested to complete electronic reports in Microsoft Office.
You must hold a full driving licence and be over 25 years old for company insurance purposes. You must have your own means of transport as you may be requested to move around 2 or 3 sites all on British Steel, Scunthorpe Works (This does not include owning a bicycle). A Site Safety Passport is required however we can provide this training for the right person. You will need to be able to take 2 site inductions pre-commencement with us.
Someone with a telescopic fork lift / vertical mast fork lift licence will hold an advantage however training you as an operator would be arranged after an initial period. We have held this contract for 20 years, and we hope to integrate someone into the team due to an increase in workload.
The initial 12 months would be considered probationary employed via an employment company.
