Financial Controller
Morgan Hunt is working with a Regulatory Body in Birmingham who are looking at recruiting a Financial Controller. This is a 12-month contract role paying up to £ p/day and will offer hybrid working.
This role is part of the Financial Control team working with the 4 team members including - Financial Controller; Assistant Accountant; two Accounts Assistants.
Key Responsibilities of the Financial Controller:
1. Supports budget setting, government estimates, month-end/year-end close, and production of the Annual Report & Accounts.
2. Engages with internal/external auditors and manages purchase/sales ledgers, staff expenses, VAT, and government data returns.
3. Aids in the production of the Annual Report and Accounts and provides capital accounting support.
4. Develops and implements an improved control framework, addressing audit recommendations.
5. Collaborates with the Finance System team to develop and implement system reports and process improvements.
6. Oversees VAT returns, balance sheet reconciliations, and reviews accounting policies, ensuring continuous improvement and modernisation of finance practices.
7. Represents the Head of Finance and/or Director in their absence, fostering collaboration across finance teams.
Previous Skills and Experience of the Financial Controller:
8. Must have public sector experience.
9. Fully qualified CCAB candidates will be preferred.
10. Financial Statements / Annual Report & Accounts preparation.
11. Strong financial control process improvement reviews and implementations.
12. Strong capital accounting, Excel and Financial System skills - Oracle is ideal.
