Package: £57,330 - £75,000 depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

AWE plays a crucial role in nuclear defence, providing the warheads for the UK's nuclear deterrent. What we do is unique and so are the people who work here. We currently have an exceptional opportunity to join us as a Senior Manager - HSE.
The Senior HSE Manager will be a specialist subject matter expert in general/industrial/nuclear/explosives safety and other major hazards associated with actual, planned and/or decommissioned facilities, plant, equipment, or product. They will advise on strategies for the development of safety activities (general/industrial/nuclear/explosives safety and other major hazards) in line with relevant legislation, industry standards and AWE's policies, procedures, and guidance. They will also deliver complex safety analyses, assessments, and associated documentation.
Key Accountabilities:
* Provision of specialist technical expertise in carrying out their role deployments.
* Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality and be a great team player.
* Setting direction and developing a shared understanding of individuals' roles in delivering the AWE vision and strategy.
* Enabling the performance and results of the team. Making sure that team members have the capabilities to get the work done now and in the future.
* Engaging and inspiring colleagues, promoting a diverse and inclusive environment that encourages them to seek opportunities for continuous improvement and personal development.
* Accountable for leading, coaching & developing a team at a local level to deliver team & personal objectives safely & securely to meet our operational plans.
Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'd like you to have experience in some of the following:
* Level 5 Qualification e.g. NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Practice, NEBOSH Diploma or BSC Diploma or equivalent.
* IOSH grade of CMIOSH or GradIOSH (to develop H&S competence through continuous professional development).
* Extensive experience in the field of general/industrial/nuclear/explosives safety.
* Experience in a nuclear, high hazard and/or highly regulated industry.
* Experience of several Domains (Management system, Front End, Project design, Commissioning, Operations, Decommissioning), gained within or outside AWE.
* Safety advisor experience in a high hazard environment.
* Investigation and inspection techniques.
* Aspects of emergency response in a high hazard environment.
* Customer service related tasks and duties.
* Evidence of effective team working.
* Good knowledge and ability to interpret relevant legislation.
* Previous experience of dealing with external Regulators

Important things you need to know:
* You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.
