We are looking for an experienced House Manager / Housekeeper / Cook to maintain the highest standard of cleanliness and care of a beautiful property near Cheltenham GL54. This is an exciting and varied opportunity for someone who is house-proud and would like to look after a house from the beginning of its ownership. It is essential you have a proven track record within a private household and can show previous longevity in your past roles. The family are looking for someone who is invested in them as they would like this to be a long-term position and to have someone who is part of their family.
The property is to be cleaned, maintained and be welcoming in readiness for immediate use by the family at any time. The family’s main residence is in London and the three children go to school there. They plan to use the house principally for weekends during term time, but not every weekend, and approximately 25%-50% of the children’s holidays.
You will be solely responsible for the upkeep of the property and for maintaining the house to a high standard, for the cleaning, washing and ironing and simple healthy cooking. As the family do not permanently reside at the house, there will be times which are busier than others. You will be working alone so you must be able to organise your own time and be self-motivated.
As House Manager you will need to be observant and able to identify any problems in a timely manner and rectify any issues by having a good network of local suppliers and contractors. You are also required to keep the house fully stocked with products and groceries and keep all household inventories up to date. They would also like you to be able to prepare food for the freezer.
When the family are in residence you should be able to discreetly blend into the background whilst carrying out your daily housekeeping duties and cooking some home cooked family meals.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
* Manage the property, running the house and its grounds to the needs of the family, reporting to them accordingly
* Be security aware, ensuring that the property and grounds are always cared for and secure
* Keep supplies stocked while discussing significant purchases with the family
* Ensure the house is prepared for family and guest arrival at all times
* Carry out all housekeeping duties to ensure the cleanliness and general housekeeping is maintained to a very high standard throughout the home
* Responsible for the high standards required for the laundry, clothes care and ironing
* Wardrobe management to include care of fine clothes
* Prepare and maintain the household inventories for all furniture, accessories and effects, cellars etc
* Manage and stock food pantry, wine cellar, household items, etc
* Ensure proper supply of oil, firewood, and other such supplies, such as flowers for the family’s arrival, for the house and property
* Food preparation and cooking of meals
* Occasional runs to the train station for the family, as well as running errands for the client and household (including grocery shopping)
Requirements:
* A current driver’s licence
* Be proactive and always one step ahead
* Have exceptional high standards and be able to keep a property immaculately
* Display a meticulous eye for detail
* Strong initiative, attention to detail, a natural flair for keeping a home guest ready and a passion for a job being well done are all critical
* Possess a professional friendly manner with a good sense of humour
* Anticipate the family’s needs with a warm and friendly manner assisting with all their requirements and resolving any issues that may arise
* Exceptional organisational and communication skills, adaptability, flexibility and problem-solving abilities
* Be comfortable around dogs as they have a Labrador
In general, you will work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday especially when the family is not in residence. However, you are expected to be flexible with your time and you will be required to work weekends and longer hours when the family is in residence. You will be given time off in lieu of this.
Salary £50,000 to £60,000 depending on experience
