Job Summary
Combining impeccable art direction skills with technical expertise and strong creative leadership skills, the Senior Art Director works with the Creative Director (Multimedia, Advertising & Promotional) to oversee the visual and conceptual output of a wide range of projects across the commercial, promotional and healthcare advertising spectrum. Working in partnership with designers, creative copywriters, strategic planners, medical writers, account teams and the Creative Director, the Senior Art Director creates head-turning creative concepts, and bring them to life, across all media.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
* Produce high quality creative ideation for internal and external clients
* Push creative boundaries to exceed customer expectations
* Oversee creative integrity of all linked project outputs
* Lead a team of creatives to deliver larger, more complex projects, under the supervision of the Creative Director
* Input and lead (where appropriate) pitches and RFPs, including presentation of creative concepts to end client – with a positive success rate in line with company objectives
* Interpret and challenge creative briefs, and drive collaboration within and across creative teams and account teams, to ensure the best possible solutions are delivered efficiently
* Understand and interpret brand guidelines, ensuring outputs are brand compliant
* Oversee conceptual outputs of other creatives, ensuring accuracy, compliance, calibre, quality and creativity standards
* Lead effective training for junior team members in skills, processes and software
* Work with Creative Services Management and freelance staff/suppliers as required, including taking and giving briefings, design and quality control, in conjunction with Creative Director
* Lead on/input into standard operating procedures, best practices and training programmes across Creative Services globally, in conjunction with the Creative SLT
* Support a continuous improvement environment
* Help drive team adherence to standard operating procedures and best practices to support smooth collaboration and global workflow management
* Lead by example in maintaining filing structures and naming conventions
Line Management (optional)
* Provide and oversee the provision of effective line management, supporting the career and personal development of assigned line reports and department members
* Ensure all line reports and department members undergo performance review and have appropriate objectives and development plans in place
* Rapidly address under-performance and initiation of active management plans to support individuals, as required
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
* Educated to degree level or equivalent with a proven creative portfolio
* Excellent conceptual, design, layout and typography skills with strong attention to detail, proven through extensive experience in a senior creative role
* Experience in healthcare communications, and specifically commercial, promotional and healthcare advertising communications, with proven ability to foster a supportive, collaborative, continuous improvement environment
* Ability to take design concepts and produce supporting deliverables for use across a wide variety of creative platforms
* Ability to take and give creative briefs
* Excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, any other specialist software experience advantageous
* Team leadership and line management experience advantageous
