About the Role
Our client is a cutting-edge organisation at the forefront of mobile threat hunting, specialising in safeguarding mobile devices against sophisticated and emerging threats. They are seeking an Android Security Researcher to take a leading role in extending their advanced malware analysis and detection capabilities to the Android platform.
This is a unique opportunity to be the first hire in their Android security team, shaping best practices in the fight against nation-state and mercenary spyware. You will work alongside teams specialising in iOS, network security, and data science to build a world-class Android security function.
Responsibilities
As an Android Security Researcher, your key responsibilities will include:
* Analysing Android malware to identify signatures and develop cutting-edge detection methods.
* Designing and developing advanced malware analysis tools to stay ahead of evolving threats.
* Investigating potential attack vectors on Android devices and assessing exploitation techniques.
* Identifying signs of exploitation and implementing effective prevention strategies.
* Evaluating failed exploits to refine detection and response methodologies.
* Collaborating across teams to integrate findings into a robust security framework.
Essential Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* Proficiency with reverse engineering tools such as Ghidra, IDA Pro, Frida, and JEB.
* Strong experience in Android forensics and the analysis of commercial spyware.
* A comprehensive understanding of the Android operating system, including log file locations and analysis.
* Expertise in Android sandboxing and the development of malware analysis pipelines.
* Proficiency in Python and shell scripting.
* Knowledge of the ELF format.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Desirable Skills
While not essential, the following skills are advantageous:
* Basic knowledge of machine learning.
* Familiarity with mobile frameworks such as Cordova, Xamarin, and Flutter.
