Data Centre Engineering Operations

DESCRIPTION
AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to ensure continuous access to our services. We work on challenging problems involving numerous variables and are seeking talented individuals to join our diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. Our goal is to deliver high standards of safety and security while maintaining cost-effective, scalable infrastructure.
As Chief Engineer, you will oversee the operation of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems within the data center, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency response. You will act as the primary point of contact for facility operations and support Amazon's data centers.
You should be capable of managing large-scale projects from conception to completion, collaborating with engineering, automation, procurement, and finance teams both locally and globally. Your responsibilities include creating project milestones, managing costs, and documenting outcomes to facilitate future implementations. The aim is to foster innovation, resilience, and cost efficiency in facility operations.
Key Job Responsibilities
1. Train and support engineering teams in troubleshooting and operations of electrical and mechanical equipment.
2. Implement and conduct site-specific training exercises covering equipment such as generators, switchgear, UPSs, chillers, etc.
3. Oversee daily operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems.
4. Manage projects independently, including design, build-out, and root cause analysis of failures.
5. Act as escalation point for facility issues, supporting site stability, including working overtime as needed.
6. Report and troubleshoot facility and server-level events within SLAs.
7. Develop and enforce standard practices for engineering and vendor teams.
8. Ensure safety procedures are followed by all personnel and vendors.

Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent.
* Extensive industry experience with UPS, backup generators, and mechanical infrastructure.
* NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
* BS7671 18th Edition.
* High/Low Voltage Authorized Person experience.
* Experience in data center or mission-critical facility operations and on-call support.
* Knowledge of network design and low voltage cabling.
