Universal Tool & Production Company (UTP) is an established Precision Engineering Company that specialises in low, medium & high-volume production, prototype or pre-production complex CNC machined components.
We manufacture complex components for demanding applications for blue chip companies both nationally and internationally, primarily in the Aerospace and the Oil & Gas industries although our experience covers Defence, Automotive and other manufacturing sectors. We are regarded as a “global class” precision engineering company and provide an all-encompassing customer service. We are capable of machining ‘exotic’ materials, such as Titanium Beta C, 718 Inconel, 13-8, 15-5, 17-4ph in H900 condition, as well as Monel K500 in 120-ksi condition, to extremely tight tolerances.
We are approved to the ISO9001 & AS9100 Rev D quality standards. For standard CNC Turning & Milling we work to tolerances of 0,01mm, and for Grinding and Lapping we work to 0,001mm. Our environmentally controlled workshop facilities enable us to achieve and maintain this level of accuracy. We have a fully equipped Inspection Department with CNC CMM quality measuring equipment.
From our 30,000 sq. ft manufacturing facilities in Lee-on-the-Solent, we regularly undertake Prismatic Machining, CNC Milling, CNC Turning, and CNC Grinding including very tight tolerance match grinding.
We offer the complete Project Management Service, incorporating both piece part manufacture and assembly.We work closely with our large network of sub-contract companies that specialise in various treatments and finishes.All external services and supplies are controlled to the standards of our AS9100 Rev D quality accreditation.
About the job
The Quality Manager will lead the company’s Quality function, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices. This role is pivotal in driving continuous improvement across all processes and embedding a culture of quality and operational excellence.
Working collaboratively across all levels of the business and partnering with stakeholders in engineering, manufacturing operations, and customer-facing teams, the Quality Manager will ensure that quality is integral to every decision and action, contributing to the company’s long-term growth and success.
This position will be at the forefront of transformational change to integrate quality principles into everyday operations and delivering measurable improvements in performance, customer satisfaction, and employee engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Quality Management
* Oversee and maintain the company’s Quality Management System (AS 9100 Rev D) and ensure adherence to all quality standards.
* Drive a culture of quality through training, mentoring, and clear communication of quality objectives.
* Lead the identification and resolution of quality issues, ensuring root cause analysis and the implementation of effective corrective actions.
* Manage and coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve manufacturing processes, reduce defects, and enhance product reliability.
* Analyse quality data to identify trends, implement preventive measures, and report on performance metrics to the Board.
Transformational Change and Continuous Improvement
* Lead initiatives to integrate quality principles into all aspects of operations, driving continuous improvement.
* Develop and promote innovative approaches that enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve outcomes.
* Inspire and engage employees at all levels, fostering a shared commitment to excellence and improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement
* Partner with the Director of Operations and other leaders to align Quality strategies with business goals.
* Analyse Quality data and metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement. Generate reports for management review and develop action plans accordingly.
* Engage with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, customers, suppliers, and auditors, to ensure effective communication and alignment on all Quality matters to enhance the company’s reputation.
* This role has 4 direct reports
Skills and Experience
* Proven experience in a Quality management role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
* Strong knowledge of AS 9100 and other relevant certifications.
* Experience in leading audits and managing compliance with regulatory requirements.
* MRP implementation experience.
