We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Staff Nurse to join our Denbigh Ward Team within the Older People's Mental Health, based in Fulbourn, Cambridge.
The ideal candidate will have a strong team work ethic, sense of accountability, and the ability to work under considerable pressure. This post is open to professionals with the right attributes to enhance a team.
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will have a commitment to teamwork, a sense of accountability, and the ability to work under pressure. The post holder will provide quality evidence-based nursing advice, support, and care for service users with mental and physical health needs and their carers within a multidisciplinary setting.
* Support and lead on the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care on night shifts.
* Have a good level of knowledge of local, national policies, and legislation which govern current service provision.
* Identify and contribute to the training needs of junior registered and non-registered staff.
* Ensure that issues of equality, diversity, and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation.
* Ensure effective communication pathways exist and act within your sphere of responsibility.

* Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based care.
* Participate in setting quality standards, including monitoring and reviewing in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy.
* Understand and meet professional role and responsibilities under the Care Programme Approach.
* Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act 2007.
* Promote carer and service user involvement within the service.
* Establish therapeutic relationships with service users and implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
* Demonstrate care and compassion in your work.
* Responsible for the safe custody and administration of medicines.
* Maintain professionalism towards service users, carers, colleagues, and other agencies.
* Collaborate with other Trust services and external agencies.
* Contribute towards service/organisational aims and objectives.
* Maintain accurate written records in compliance with Trust policy and NMC guidance.
* Communicate effectively with service users and carers.
* Empower service users with relevant information about their treatment and available services.
Person specification
Education / Qualifications
* Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH) or other relevant specialism.
* NMC registration.
* Post graduate qualification relating to ward specialism.
Experience
* Experience of in-patient services and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Basic level of dealing with service users with complex mental health needs.
* Lived experience of mental health.
Skills & Abilities
* Effective communication skills both verbally and written, including IT literacy.
* Effective time management and organisation skills.
* Ability to use own initiative and contribute to a multidisciplinary team approach.
* Ability to work as part of a team and empower other team members.
* Awareness of safeguarding issues and responsibilities under relevant legislation.
* Basic understanding of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
* Understanding of the Care Programme Approach (CPA).
* Basic understanding of legislation relating to care.

* Willingness to follow instruction but also able to question and challenge.
Physical Requirements
* Physically able to undertake a demanding role safely.
