NHS England are looking to recruit an Senior Analyst (Improvement) at Band 8a Level. The post will be based within the East Intelligence & Insight Team.
At a high level, the Intelligence & Insight Team supports the East of England’s Operations Directorate to distinguish between signal and background noise. We guide customers to make meaningful changes within their work areas, which broadly cover performance and improvement, always bearing in mind that behind all the numbers are the patients we serve.
As a Senior Analyst, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic insight team supporting managers and staff across the Operations and System Support Directorate, helping them to distinguish between signal and noise by providing actionable insights to support decision-making.

Working in complex environments with an ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders, so excellent communication and relationship building skills are necessary.
The postholder will:
• Monitor performance metrics to understand how patients experience the NHS – for example collecting and publishing statistics on cancer performance. This also includes monitoring performance and identifying reasons for changes and variation in performance.
• Assisting with how the NHS plans for its delivery of services – enabling the annual planning round.
• Assisting topic leads with deep dive pieces of analysis – these are multiple and varied in their topic and method applied. Previous areas include impact of doctors Industrial Action and modelling impact of referral patterns.
• Projecting demand for NHS services and required capacity over the course of the year and future years. Eg. how services are affected by changing appointments from in person to virtual.
• Work proactively and on their own initiative, with the ability to manage integrated programmes of work. The ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with competing priorities. Curiosity and a desire to explore how we can continuously seek to improve how we deliver our work are critical to the role.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

• Be inquisitive and methodical in applying analytical skills. Including, interpretation of data, statistics, evaluation, or simple modelling/forecasting. Know how to use techniques appropriately and have a degree in a highly numerate subject or evidence of equivalent experience.
• Apply technical skills, working directly with large data sets to produce analysis at scale, using SQL, Python, Databricks.
• Be comfortable working with data and evidence. Experience in NHS data sources is welcome although transferrable skills are considered.
• Build relationships & networks - our analysis and support is needed to influence the design of the NHS and support those taking difficult decisions, be able to work to a brief to deliver timely analysis.
• Great communication skills - be able to communicate your analysis, both verbally and in written forms
While a healthcare background is beneficial, it is not essential, you could bring transferrable experience and skills with intelligence and data.
