What's involved with this role: Interim SEN Casework Officer - Education Reference no: Wakefield 0009 58B5 / 1 Pay Rate: £220 per day PAYE 37 Monday - Friday, normal working hours This opening assignment is for 2-3 months City: NORMANTON Hybrid working The purpose of the role is to manage a caseload of children with Education Health and Care plans to ensure that all appropriate actions relating to statutory requirements are met. Undertake casework relating to new requests for statutory assessment to ensure that the case is prepared for a decision by SEN panel. Key Responsibilities: Supervise and action the day-to-day work relating to a large pupil caseload, referring to SEN Officers and to Administration Officers as appropriate and ensuring that all processes are completed within statutory timescales. Make initial judgements regarding the initiating of statutory assessments and the amending of Education, Health and Care Plans following annual review, consulting SEN Officers as necessary. Produce Education, Health and Care Plans, making judgements about needs and provision in light of advice from medical and educational professionals and other agencies. Deal, as far as possible, with parental concerns and representations relating to the statutory processes, consulting with SEN Officers as necessary. Guide and direct the work of Administration and Clerical Officers relating to the statutory processes, including the ensuring of arrangements to be made for individual children. Ensure that schools and other providers detailed in a child’s Education Health and Care Plan are complying with the expectations and obligations placed upon them as specified in the Education Health and Care Plan and to take action as required. Consider the provisions in the Education Health and Care Plan and make decisions re whether the child is making progress in line with expectations and to then advise others accordingly. Ensure that placements are arranged for children following initial assessment or annual review, including liaison with other Teams in the Local Authority (e.g. Admissions and Transport) and consultation as necessary with schools in line with statutory requirements. Provide information for schools and other services about provision made for individual children as required. Make judgements following annual reviews of Education Health and Care Plans, to establish whether changes are required and prepare appropriate submissions for EHC Panel about any necessary changes of provision. Apply a solution focussed approach to facilitate negotiations where there are discrepancies between the needs and provision. Qualifications: A good standard of educational and/or vocational qualifications, including English and maths at GCSE Grade A – C or equivalent. BTEC Level 3 award in SEN Casework or proven experience in a similar field. RSA Stage II Text Processing or an ability to demonstrate an equivalent standard. Must have completed Child Protection Training (and undertake upstaged training as required), including the Common Assessment Framework, or be willing to undertake this training on appointment. Must have completed training related to Data Protection and Freedom of Information legislation (and update this as required) or be willing to undertake this training upon appointment. Knowledge: Knowledge of SEN Legislation and Statutory procedures and current education legislation. Experience: Extensive experience of working in the area of SEN, or substantial experience in a relevant area. Experience working with others from a range of professional backgrounds. Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation. Assessment used in schools by teaching staff and other professionals. Skills & Abilities: Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite). Must be able to travel round the district and beyond.
