Sandwell’s Environmental Enforcement Team provides a Borough-wide service for tackling Environmental crime such as fly tipping and waste related issues.The service covers all locations across the borough and operates from a central building in Oldbury.
As an important front-line service working alongside a range of partner organisations, we are looking to recruit an Environmental Rapid Response Officer on a permanent basis to further strengthen the team. The successful candidate will work alongside the Environmental Enforcement Officers and maintain good working relationships with partner organisations and external organisations we undertake work for.
Duties for this role include:
* Working within an enforcement team to deal with inappropriate disposal of waste by members of the public and businesses throughout the Borough.
* To work in partnership with officers of the Council and their partners and other organisations when responding to and resolving waste and recycling issues.
* To remove fly tipping from public, private and unregistered land as required and directed by Environmental Enforcement Officers.
* To remove waste from land or properties following formal legal action (works in default).
* To conduct litter picking on council owned land when directed.
* To respond to and resolve customer enquiries/complaints relevant to the post.
* To patrol the Borough to identify hot spot areas of fly tipping.
* To gather and record various forms of evidence of any possible incorrect waste disposal.
* To provide witness statements in relation to activities undertaken in conjunction with other Council Officers.
* To compile and maintain accurate records and information systems, both manual and computerised in relation to the post.
* To work under the direction of the Environmental Enforcement Officers with appropriate supervision.
* To educate residents within the Borough on correct methods of waste disposal.
* To participate in the operation of the Councils Appraisal Scheme.
* To carry out duties in line with the Council’s policy on equality.

Hours:
The service operates 37 hours a week.
Mon – 07.30am to 3.30pm
Tue – 07.30am to 3.30pm
Wed – 07.30am to 3.30pm
Thu - 07.30am to 3.30pm
Fri – 07.30am to 3.00pm
A degree of flexibility may be required on rare occasions to meet the demands of the service.
Qualifications:
Good literacy skills GCSE (or equivalent).
Possess a current full driving licence.
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to drive a 3.5 ton tipper vehicle provided by the Council.
