Job Description:
Job overview
The advertised post is for a full-time, fixed term locum consultant in the Department of Endocrinology at the Barts Cancer Centre, initially for a period of 12 months. The postholder will be based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and will work with the endocrinology team in providing high quality care to endocrine and general medicine patients. This is a new post, the need for which arises from a combination of year-on-year growth in referral practice, additional complex work as a result of two international centre of excellence awards and a backlog of cases that has arisen from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The appointee will be required to participate in all clinical governance activities related to the endocrine service. This will include contributing to clinical audit, clinical risk activities, clinical incident reporting, responding to complaints within the Trust’s expected timescale, and participating in the development of the involvement of users in planning and monitoring of the various clinical services. The appointee will be expected to attend the regular clinical governance meetings undertaken within endocrinology, and any other governance activities which are deemed to be appropriate by the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be expected to contribute to the teaching load of the department for undergraduates and postgraduates. There will be other teaching duties in relation to other members of the multidisciplinary team and trainees relevant to those disciplines.
The appointee will be expected to contribute to other areas of activity within the Department and the Trust as needed from time to time, and as appropriate to their training and experience.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care. They will be required to adhere to the Trust’s policy on maintaining medical excellence and to be committed to maintaining their standard of performance by keeping their knowledge and skills up-to-date.
The appointee will take part in the appraisal process for consultants, as organised and directed by the Medical Director of the Trust.
