We are supporting our client, a leading global automation company based in Telford, who are looking for a Controls Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Controls Engineer will have knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and communication network design, as well as 3+ years of experience in design and programming using Siemens / TIA Portal.
Position Overview: As a Controls Engineer, you'll be responsible for the design, development, commissioning, and acceptance of automated assembly lines and machines.
Responsibilities for Controls Engineer:
* Design and program complex automation solutions throughout project lifecycles, including supervising the installation at the customer's facility.
* Create functional design specifications.
* Work on multi-line projects as part of a team.
* Communicate effectively with Electrical, Mechanical, Process, and Shop floor departments regarding design changes and issues.
* Participate in Continuous Improvement activities across the department.
* Manage program backups and version control effectively.
* Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve automation failures.
* Manage design and commissioning time efficiently.
* Effectively hit project milestones.
About You:
* Qualified to a minimum HNC level or equivalent in Manufacturing/Electrical/Mechatronics Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of experience programming automated production lines.
* Extensive knowledge of PLC and HMI design and commissioning.
* Extensive knowledge in TIA/Step 7 + Safety & Startdrive/Starter.
* Fully fluent in ladder, graph, and SCL languages.
* Extensive knowledge in Siemens WinCC/WinCC Flex.
* Advanced knowledge of DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, ProfiNET, ProfiSAFE, and other communication protocols.
* Advanced knowledge of pneumatic safety principles and design.
* Excellent knowledge of resistance welding, electrical standards, and latest safety standards.
* Good understanding of motion control and robot integration.
* Ability to troubleshoot issues on automated manufacturing lines.
* Revision and version management experience.
* Ability to read and interpret electrical and pneumatic drawings.
* OEE calculations.
* Continuous Improvement Activities.
* Implementation/Optimization of vision systems.
* Data extraction.
* Proven ability and willingness to train others.
