Job Description
Trainee Mortgage Adviser (NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED)
Newcastle Office/Hybrid
£25000 rising to £30000 per annum plus bonus
Start date 20th January 2025
Fun, rewarding and with the opportunity to develop and grow your career. That’s life with L&C Mortgages, the UK’s leading fee free mortgage and protection broker with over 160 awards to its name.
Join us and you’ll be part of a business that takes your progress seriously and wants you to enjoy being part of the L&C family. From ‘High Five’ colleague nominations – recognising those who go the extra mile, your birthday off and our fabulous Perkbox membership, this is a place that really gives back on the effort you put in.
Right now, we’re expanding our Newcastle office and taking on Trainee Mortgage Advisers. This is your chance to get in on that growth.
The role
Mortgaging or remortgaging a property can be a daunting experience for first-time and experienced buyers alike. Getting the right deal is a crucial factor in putting home buyers’ and homeowners’ minds at ease. Luckily for them, that’s exactly where you come in. From starter homes to investment properties, you’ll be there on the end of the phone with the kind of advice that makes property dreams come true.
You’ll scope out the best mortgage options through listening to customers’ stories and circumstances, fully documenting these with the help of L&C’s technology and coming up with a solution that meets their needs and satisfies regulatory rules and standards as you go. We expect a quality and compliant service for our customers and this performance will be monitored.
Will they be best served by a fixed-term or variable mortgage? Do they need the option to overpay each month? What about fee free early exit? Once you have a clear idea of what they need, it’s all about rolling up your sleeves and giving it your all so that we can provide the customer with the right advice and outcome, getting them the best possible deal. By doing all this, you’ll demonstrate L&C values, our passion for mortgages and why our customers were right to choose us.
Of course there will be administrative work along the way but, above all, it’s about building that rapport and a real sense of trust that you’re going to do everything you can to deliver a compliant deal that really works for the customer.
FCA Certification Regime & Conduct Rules
L&C is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and is classified as an “Enhanced Firm” under the Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SM&CR). This role will fall into the “Certification and Conduct” elements of the regime. L&C will be required to attest to your integrity, competence and financial soundness on an initial and regular basis if you’re successful in your application and as a “Certification Regime” employee, your personal and professional details will be published in the FCA’s Directory which is accessible to the public. This can provide comfort to customers that they are dealing with a legitimate and monitored Adviser that belongs to a firm with a solid culture and ethics.
You will also be personally subject to the 5 FCA Conduct Rules. You may already be aware of these but don’t worry if not. If successful in securing an interview and role, a detailed explanation and training will be provided.
About you
As a Trainee Mortgage Adviser, we are looking for candidates that have customer service experience and a great work ethic. This will have also helped you to hone your listening skills and develop a sense of empathy that customers can really sense when they talk to you. Now you’re looking to really push your career to the next level, working hard for that all-important personal and professional development.
Well, you’re going to need serious organising and prioritising skills to max-out on productivity and results without compromising on quality of care. Not to mention solid IT skills and a team-focused approach that allows you to pick up a colleague’s case when they’re unable to take a call so that they can do the same for you when needed. Finally, you’re going to need bags of confidence because there are going to be decisions to make as to which offers you put in front of customers. So, you’ll be dedicated to knowing the market and what’s out there in order to build that confidence.
Why join L&C?
Working at L&C means being part of an environment steeped in respect and equity – leveraging people’s skills so that everyone is on a level playing field. The standard of training is as high as it can be, so that the service you’re able to deliver is at the same level. What you do with it and where you take your role from there is up to you – because there are ample opportunities to progress.
Joining L&C means having the chance to:
Enrol on an in-depth induction programme, with a proven track record of success
Gain a CeMap, LIBF qualification upon passing the exam and become a mortgage expert.
