Waste Lab Sampling Technician
Location: Gloucester
Contract Length: 6 months +
Rate: £14.70 per hour
Drug and Alcohol test will be required.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Reception of tankered trade and domestic waste loads at sewage treatment works to include:
2. Ensuring that simple lab analysis is conducted on samples prior to acceptance.
3. Ensuring that all appropriate paperwork and electronic records (including Duty of Care and transportation) are completed and dealt with appropriately.
4. Ensure the process for acceptance or rejection of loads based upon procedures is performed consistently and effectively to protect STW's assets and processes.
5. Operate the waste discharge tanks onsite, calculating discharge rates in line with site performance.
6. Liaise with site operational staff on a daily basis.
7. Frequently work from multiple STW locations to perform the duties required related to tankered waste operations (e.g., receive loads, collect samples and paperwork, attend meetings, etc.).
8. Record and compile data, produce reports, and support the delivery of relevant SLAs/KPIs and requirements of the Tankered Waste Team and Manager.
9. Work in other sampling duties as required such as for domestic waste.
Experience:
In order to succeed in this role, it is expected that you will have:
1. New entrant position; experience of working in the water or waste industry is advantageous; however, the required training shall be provided.
2. Knowledge/experience of IT systems including Microsoft Word and Excel is advantageous.
3. An awareness of the water or waste industry and wastewater processes is highly beneficial.
4. Experience of customer interaction and/or tanker drivers would be advantageous.

1. Ability to work unsupervised and manage competing requirements and activities to complete required tasks while providing high levels of customer service.
2. Capable of following a number of predefined processes, showing attention to detail, and demonstrating an ability to continually seek to improve processes.
3. Ability to effectively deal with customers/drivers on site as well as integrate into the site operational teams.
4. Ability to work effectively with site operations and network control.
5. Able to work on a flexible shift pattern between 7 am and 7 pm, covering Monday to Friday (37.5 hours) with potential Saturdays if needed by the business.
6. Ability to drive and work on other sites within the Severn Trent area to cover annual leave and undertake additional sampling requirements as needed.
Qualifications:
• Ideally qualified in a scientific discipline e.g., chemistry, biology, environmental science to a degree level.
• Suitable operational experience/qualifications related to sewage treatment works operations may be an acceptable alternative.
• Full valid UK driving license.
