We are looking for a well-motivated nurse to be an integral part of the Upper GI Team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Nurse who will work within the Upper GI service across The Royal Shrewsbury and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. We are committed to the development of all our team members both educationally and clinically; however, relevant specialist knowledge and skills are essential.
The role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Upper GI Team is to work alongside the Band 7 team members in the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of patient care for those who present with UGI cancer investigation and diagnosis and related conditions. The nurse specialist will work in collaboration with specialist and other professional teams.

Main duties of the job
1. The post holder will be expected to provide a high-quality service to all patients referred with a suspected diagnosis of upper GI cancer.
2. The Upper GI Nurse Specialist works closely with the Consultant Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists, as part of the multidisciplinary team, to ensure that patients with suspected cancer and newly diagnosed upper gastrointestinal cancers receive the highest standard of care.
3. The post holder may be required to work across multiple sites.
4. You will act as a key worker for patients with suspected cancer and after the initial diagnosis of cancer, providing a link between patients and healthcare professionals across primary, secondary, and tertiary care.
5. In addition, you will also undertake face-to-face outpatient clinics.
6. The successful candidate will have experience of working with cancer patients, particularly patients with an upper GI malignancy.
7. You will act as a Key Worker for a clinical caseload, working to coordinate care and provide easy access and ongoing support for patients.
8. The post holder will facilitate and support healthcare teams to implement evidence-based practice and will contribute to the development of the Upper GI cancer service.

The successful applicant must be willing to be flexible to meet the needs of this team and must demonstrate knowledge, expertise, and passion in working within the specialty of Upper GI surgery and/or Oncology.

Education and Qualifications
* Registered Nurse
* Appropriate level of verbal & written language skills
* Literacy & numeracy Level 2 or equivalent (GCSE 9-4)
* Degree or willing to work towards a degree
Experience
* Experience of working in an acute healthcare environment
* Evidence of CPD
* Post qualification experience of working in an acute NHS Trust
* Experience working within a specialty
Knowledge
* Knowledge of current professional issues
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Strong leadership skills
* Good organisational skills; able to plan own work but also work effectively within a team
* Ability to use a range of IT packages/software
* Understanding of the use of audit in a clinical setting
