The Division of Surgery at the Bristol Royal Infirmary is looking to recruit a Ward Clerk to join our multi-disciplinary team on our short stay surgical ward. This will be a fast-paced and exciting environment specialising in the care of acute surgical patients.
Are you an organised and efficient person with excellent interpersonal skills who will relish the opportunity for personal development in this challenging environment? Are you adaptable and able to manage your own workload?
Previous experience of working within a hospital setting or in a clerical/receptionist role is desirable.
Main duties of the job
Communication:
* To liaise with patients, clinical staff, and Trust support staff in person, via telephone and email as necessary.
* Show a caring and professional approach towards patients and visitors.
* Escalate patient queries and general issues to the role’s line manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate.
* To welcome and assist patients, relatives and visitors on arrival to the ward.
Organising and Planning:
* Ensure that all clinical results and other clinical information are accurately filed in the patient notes.
* Prepare patient notes for coding within the relevant deadlines.
* To carry out associated clerical duties, for example maintaining accurate filing systems and diary management.
* Attend appropriate meetings as required by the role’s line manager.
Person specification
Qualifications and Training
* Educated to GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths.
Knowledge and Experience
* Previous reception or customer-facing experience in a healthcare or public setting.
* Clerical/administration experience including filing and/or reception.
Skills and Abilities
* Excellent/professional telephone/reception manner.
* Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
* Ability to work effectively in a busy team and communicate clearly.
