Job overview
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust provides the widest range of Mental Health Care in the UK. It currently provides over 230 services including inpatient, outpatient and community support to the residents of Lambeth, Wandsworth, Lewisham, Southwark and Croydon.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within South London and Maudsley NHS FT (Mental Health) for a Capital Project Manager. Working as part of the Capital and Estates team, the post holder will be responsible for developing capital projects from feasibility studies through to delivery of refurbishments, backlog maintenance schemes and new builds.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be involved in the management of schemes from conception to completion following the Trust process and procedures and will have the scope to input into and further develop the way estates projects are delivered.
The post holder will be experienced in estates project management. Experience of working in an NHS environment would be desirable but not essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Capital Projects Manager is a key role for the Trust supporting the Head of Capital in the provision of a professional Estates design, technical advice and engineering/construction management service. This includes the direct management and supervision of Capital schemes for all building and engineering matters associated with the Trust. All such schemes are implemented to agreed costs, timescales and the required quality standards to provide a modern, efficient and sustainable Estates portfolio compliant with all Estates and Facilities related Regulations to enable the ongoing and effective delivery of patient care.
The post holder will directly manage the provision of Building Improvement schemes through construction and engineering contractors and external specialist consultants and surveyors to meet the requirements of the Trust Estates and Service strategies and the associated Capital and major revenue projects. The post holder will specialise in the maintenance of the Estate programmes and lead on all matters relating to the overall condition of the estate in collaboration with the Backlog Maintenance Manager and the Estates leads on the hospital sites.
Responsibilities include the design, detailed specification, procurement, planning, implementation and project management, and contract administration of all Capital and major revenue projects, in addition to any compliance and associated remedial works arising from in-house and specialist audits. The post holder will lead on the development of the SL&M Estates design guide to enable an informed client brief for all designers and contractors to use in pricing and designing for refurbishments and new builds. The design guide will form the basis of the risk analysis for the Board to understand the environmental risks and derogations from standard inherent in the estate.
The post holder will deputise for the Head of Capital during periods of absence, managing the operational Estates team, including dealing with HR matters such as staff performance, recruitment, leave and sickness, return to work interviews, and when required, dealing with grievances or complaints.
The post holder will also represent the Head of Capital at various meetings and report into Trust groups when required.

Qualifications
* Specialist Project works and building knowledge to degree level or equivalent post-graduate knowledge through training and experience. (A, I)
* Evidence of post-qualifying and continuing professional development. (A, I)
* IOSH Healthcare (Risk & Safety Management) or NEBOSH general certificate (Construction). (A, I)
* PRINCE 2 Practitioner or equivalent project management qualification (A, I)
Experience
