We are working with the local authority to recruit 2 Environmental Protection Officers to be based in Medway.
1. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
* To carry out a range of environmental protection related activities, including contaminated land, noise, air pollution and environment permitting and, together with associated statutory and regulatory functions.
* To support the delivery of the strategic environmental protection service including proactive and reactive work across the services as required, including the investigation of complaints, project management, taking suitable enforcement action, attending court where necessary and attending events and meetings as required.
* Carry out inspections in relation to relevant statutory provisions in premises and circumstances where the council is the enforcing authority. Prepare reports as necessary and take such action as appropriate having regard to the corporate enforcement policy. Serve Notices, where necessary, in consultation with the senior management.
* Initiate, develop and implement positive two-way working relationships and service partnerships with other teams within the Council and outside stakeholders.

Qualifications
Essential
• Relevant professional qualification to degree level, or equivalent.
Desirable
• Post-graduate qualification in a relevant field such as acoustics, contaminated land, pollution control or environmental sciences
Knowledge
Essential
* An excellent working knowledge of strategic environmental protection.· Recent and relevant post graduate experience in acting as a consultee in the licensing and planning processes (including major infrastructure), reviewing plans, reports, environmental impact assessments, environmental statements, environmental searches, reviewing new applications/variations to existing licenses, reports and the associated dealing with licensing appeals and appearing at hearings
Desirable
* A working knowledge of passive/automatic monitoring procedures across the authority
* Ability to demonstrate experience in applying the requirements of the Control of Pollution Act
* A working knowledge of the Environment Permitting regulations
* A working knowledge of relevant Contaminated Land legislation
Experience
Essential
* Recent and relevant post graduate experience in acting as a consultee in the licensing and planning processes (including major infrastructure)
· Demonstrable experience and ability of using advanced theoretical, practical, procedural, organisational and policy knowledge across a range of environmental protection subjects
* Working knowledge of the legislation, statutory guidance, circulars, scientific and technical literature relevant to the Strategic Environmental Protection service.
* Knowledge and experience of partnership working with a broad range of individuals and stakeholders.
Desirable
* A working knowledge of passive/automatic monitoring procedures across the authority
* Experience in applying the requirements of the Control of Pollution Act
* Experience of undertaking Environmental Permitting duties
* Experience of undertaken Contaminated Land duties including Part2A, environmental searches and reviewing planning documentation in respect to contamination
* Knowledge of issues around, climate change, carbon management and the challenges of becoming carbon neutral.

• Full driving licence (valid for driving within the UK) and access to own transport for work purposes.

(iii) between one and two hours either being alert to risk or simple calculating. documents, or equivalent
1 role is 21 hours and the other role is 24 hours.
