Are you interested in driving the technology strategy of smart gas and electricity metering at the heart of the push towards net zero? If you have strong technology or product leadership skills gained from any business domain, then the Smart Energy Code Company (SECCo) would love to hear from you!
The smart metering arrangements sit at the heart of the Government’s objective of delivering a net zero energy system. The Smart Energy Code Company is responsible for the governance of the rules that ensure the interoperability of smart meters and governance and use of the services provided by the Data Communications Company. Smart Metering is a key enabler of a net-zero energy system and there has never been a more important time for ensuring that smart meters and the supporting Smart Energy Code (SEC) rules are fit for the future.
The parties to the SEC are at the forefront of developments that will allow energy consumers to make better use of their energy and reduce their energy bills, whilst ensuring more efficient use of the energy system and assets. At the heart of decarbonising the UK economy, the energy sector is an exciting place to be, with SECCo arguably being one of the most important bodies in ensuring we achieve the UK’s low-carbon goals.
The SECCo Board is working to increase the executive capacity of SECCo, introducing new roles to work alongside the existing SEC code administrator and together provide a better service to SEC Parties.
As Head of Business and Technical Architecture, you will be responsible for identifying the right smart metering technology strategy to meet the business needs. You will drive the vision of the end-to-end smart metering business and technical architectures to meet the evolving requirements of energy consumers. This leadership position will involve working closely with the SECCo Chair and Executive team and crucially will include chairing the Technical and Business Architecture Sub-Committee (TABASC) of the SEC. In this Sub-Committee, members from industry come together with the DCC to consider business and technical issues and change, particularly in respect of DCC proposals for new programmes of work, such as new communication and metering technologies. You will foster a positive and productive relationship with the DCC, as well as liaising closely with the other SEC Sub-Committees and will regularly report to the SEC Panel, the governing body ultimately responsible for smart metering.
Key Responsibilities
· As Chair of TABASC, work with TABASC members to:
* Drive the development, implementation and maintenance of a technology and business architecture roadmap with respect to smart metering
* Create a vision of how technology and business innovations can be used to drive improvements and best value for consumers (including innovations in the use of smart metering data)
* Oversee the implementation of technology and business change
* Oversee the maintenance of the Business Architecture and Technical Architecture SEC document sets
· Act as a trusted advisor to the SEC Panel, the smart metering governing body, and to the wider energy industry on smart metering technology and business architecture
· Seek to continuously improve the way the SECCo operates, adding value for all stakeholders, in particular SEC Parties
· Develop and maintain a close working relationship with senior leadership and SMEs in SECAS (SECCo’s Service Provider), DCC, Ofgem, DESNZ and Alt HAN Co, understanding their perspectives and managing their input
· Liaise closely with other Sub-Committee Chairs, notably for the security-related Sub-Committees
The Successful Candidate Will Have:
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior technology or product leadership role (preferably within energy or telecoms)
* Demonstrable experience balancing business and technology requirements (for example as a business-focused CTO or a technology-focused CPO)
* Demonstrable experience of working with and engaging with customers on their needs
* Demonstrable ability of operating as an effective Chair, covering technical options and priorities, taking inputs from multiple perspectives (i.e. customers and architects) and considering operational necessities and the replacement of legacy systems
* The ability to interact with senior industry stakeholders, with competing priorities and viewpoints, in a structured, fair and collaborative manner
* Outstanding communication skills to explain business and technical complexities with clarity
* A technology background, with ability to assess the strategic impact of technologies on smart metering
* A track record of project-managing and delivering successful large-scale technology projects and initiatives
* A detailed understanding of the technical smart metering solution (this is preferable but not essential).
At SECCo, you’ll be working at the forefront of the UK’s energy transformation. As part of a dynamic team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring that smart metering services continue to support the country's move towards a sustainable, low-carbon future.
We look forward to receiving your application!
