Phlebotomist / Clinical Support Worker
Department: Pathology - Blood Science (Pathology Support)
Band 3: £24,071 - £25,674 per annum
Hours: Full-time 37.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Main duties of the job
* To provide a timely and caring phlebotomy service to the wards of Milton Keynes University Hospital and thus helping with the diagnosis and discharge of patients.
* To process samples within the laboratory in a timely manner and thus help with the diagnosis and discharge of patients. To provide information and assist with enquiries as and when required.
Job responsibilities
* Act as receptionist in Pathology reception, receiving visitors and patients, dealing with enquiries and ensuring that printed results are sent to requesters at an acceptable rate.
* Ensure patients, members of the public, Trust and CCG staff are given the correct protocols for any test required and that they understand what is required.
* Receive all types of specimens e.g. blood, urine, faeces etc. for laboratory investigation. Histology samples from theatre must be carefully checked to ensure they are correct and must be signed for in the theatre book.
* To check patient identification on samples/request cards and attach laboratory numbers (or bar codes) as appropriate. To be responsible for the initial investigation of mislabelled or missing samples and report inadequate samples to qualified laboratory staff. Ensure all mismatched requests are carefully logged according to quality standards.
