The post holder will work in partnership with clinical collaborative, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and NHS England to facilitate the continued development and maintenance of high-quality practice placements for pre-registration midwives.
To expand practice placement opportunities across a broad range of disciplines/professional areas in conjunction with guidance from NHSE/I, HEE and in collaboration with relevant contacts from appropriate educational institutions.
To provide support and guidance to practice assessors/supervisors in order to facilitate the integration of theory and practice within the practice placement area.
To be a first point of contact for assessors/supervisors or registrants and offer guidance to students, particularly when highlighting concerns or potential problems in relation to practice placement areas.
Works in partnership with the senior midwifery team ward/department manager to ensure the multi-disciplinary team all work together to achieve agreed, common goals/outcomes. They will contribute to driving the trust quality and safety priorities through education and role modelling.
Main duties of the job
1. Monitor student evaluations of practice and lead investigations regarding concerns raised by students around practice. When necessary, facilitate meetings between the HEI/practice and students when concerns have been raised.
2. Lead investigations with HEI representatives when practice raises concerns around student's fitness to practice.
3. Be responsible for ensuring NMC Standards for education are embedded within the organisation to support learning, assessing, and supervising in practice.
4. Facilitate effective communications between the universities, trust, and all other stakeholders through strategic partnership working.
5. Lead and support the training and development needs of assessors and supervisors in practice.
6. Produce annual reports of student activity, student concerns, and placement capacity to be presented to the wider maternity and practice education team.
7. Represent the trust in meetings and decisions made with universities and other key stakeholders.
8. Work in collaboration with colleagues to disseminate good practice in developing learning opportunities, e.g. induction/orientation packages and placement profiles.
9. Develop and deliver the Home Trust Induction.
10. Co-ordinate recruitment and selection activities with HEIs for pre-registration interviews.
