Purpose of the role: As a Business Development Lead, you play a pivotal role in identifying, pursuing and securing new business opportunities for MPI, primarily across the Sustainable Cements and Concretes industry and its supply chains, but also across the industries MPI operates in and within new sectors. You are a key member of the Commercial Department, working with the team to deliver MPIs targets. You are a strategic thinker with a proven track record in sales, business development, and relationship management alongside a technical knowledge of cements and concretes and passion for sustainability and supporting our purpose in combatting climate change. You regularly evaluate MPIs existing capabilities and ensure the business development strategy is aligned with MPIs overall strategy and its environmental, societal and governance objectives. Main Duties/Responsibilities Identify new business opportunities: Conduct market research to identify trends, customer needs, and new business opportunities across the Sustainable Cements and Concretes industry, its supply chains, and within new sectors. Proactively source new leads using market research, cold calling, online tools, and event attendance and convert them into successful long-term relation-ships. Work closely with the marketing team to develop engaging proposals, presentations, and reports. Engage with a wide variety of clients, from SMEs to multinational corporate entities, working with decision-makers to link their requirements to MPIs capabilities. Work closely with current and past clients to generate additional business opportunities across the entire MPI capability spectrum. Analyse market data and industry insights to develop targeted strategies for business expansion and market penetration. Collaboration: Work closely with MPIs technical specialists to develop innovative solutions and customised offerings to address client needs. Work with our on-site and prospective tenants to develop strong relationships to address their needs and identify opportunities for collaboration. Business Development Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive business development strategies aligned with the company's objectives and growth targets. Identify and prioritise key target clients, industries, and market segments for business development initiatives. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to tailor solutions and offerings to meet the specific needs of target clients. Proposal Development and Presentation: Secure commercial and grant funded revenue by preparing compelling proposals, presentations, and pitches tailored to the needs and preferences of prospective clients. Lead client meetings, presentations, and negotiations to effectively communicate the value proposition and secure new business opportunities. Pipeline Management and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of sales activities, pipeline status, and client interactions using MPIs systems. Track, monitor, and report progress against sales targets and KPIs, providing regular updates and reports to the Leadership Team. Continuously evaluate and refine business development strategies based on market feedback, performance metrics, and industry developments. Person Specification, Skills and qualities Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering, or STEM related field is desirable but not essential, we will consider applications from candidates who are qualified by experience. Knowledge and understanding of the cement and concrete industry is pivotal in the delivery of this role. Proven track record of success in business development, sales, or related roles within the research, technology, or scientific sectors. Strong understanding of the research and technology landscape with a demonstrated ability to identify and capitalise on market opportunities. Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels. Strategic thinker with a results-driven mindset and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, and other relevant business development tools and platforms.
