Chief Registrar - 12 month fixed term post
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated ST4+ or equivalent Resident or Locally Employed Doctor (LED) with an interest in leadership and management to undertake a part time, fixed term secondment for 12 months as our 2025/26 Chief Registrar.
The Chief Registrar role provides senior resident or LED doctors with 40-50% protected time to develop skills and confidence in leadership, management, and quality improvement, through undertaking a leadership project and through integrated working with the senior leadership team at HDFT, representing the medical training workforce at Harrogate District Hospital. This can be undertaken in programme or out of programme.
Main duties of the job
The chief registrar secondment will suit resident doctors who:
* Want to learn about leadership and gain senior leadership experience
* Are comfortable working in uncertain environments and across traditional boundaries
* Relish the opportunity to develop their own ideas and initiatives
* Are committed to and passionate about improving the NHS
HDFT’s Chief Registrar is mentored by a senior clinical leader within the organisation and will gain a unique insight into NHS leadership and management processes, as well as deeper knowledge of NHS structures and stakeholders. Their leadership development will be supported by the Royal College of Physicians’ 10 month Chief Registrar leadership programme.
Working for our organisation
The chief registrar is a key link between HDFT's leadership team and the resident doctor body. They are welcome to attend senior meetings and observe Trust Board meetings. They will undertake single or multiple clinical quality improvement projects requiring resident doctor stakeholder involvement. They will also be expected to lead key ongoing junior doctor leadership development activities at HDFT, which has signed up to FMLM’s Leadership Commitment for Resident Doctors.
Applications are open from ST4+ or equivalent Senior Resident Doctors or Locally Employed Doctors from physician or non-physician specialties, who work full time or less than full time and who have permission to apply from their TPD (if in training programme).
