Job overview
To maintain properly and effectively all building structures fabric and finishes within the Community sites and associated buildings, related to the job title. The post holder will assist in a multiskilled service to the Community Engineering Department and other directorates within Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). Responsible for effective maintenance of the Trust’s building/technical infrastructure. Through personal leadership, commitment and practice, the post holder will secure the highest professional standards of building/engineering standards throughout the Trust. The post holder will be expected to work closely with the engineering teams, Capital development, and environment teams.
Responsible for the effective implementation of the Hospital’s Health & Safety policies and protocols.
Main duties of the job
1. In support of the Team Leader/Manager to ensure the day-to-day efficient and safe working of all building/engineering plant on site.
2. To carry out day-to-day maintenance of building/engineering plant as directed by Team Managers.
3. Attend to plant breakdowns, carry out repairs and restore the units to service as quickly and efficiently as possible.
4. With support, fault find on electric motors and their associated control gear.
5. Activate changeover of plant and/or its safe isolation in the event of a malfunction or breakdown.
6. Experience in fault finding and installation on building mechanical services.
7. Able to carry out minor mechanical work such as connection/disconnection of belt drives, pulley, and direct drive couplings.
8. Maintain and efficiently run plant and equipment and instruct others on the above features and other aspects of the work.
9. Efficiently diagnose and repair faults in mechanical installations, plant, and equipment.
10. Deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.

Qualifications/ Education
* Recognised GCSE in craft subjects (metal work, fabrication engineering, and woodwork) or equivalent.
* Relevant experience in a similar industry.
* Driving License for a manual vehicle.
* Commitment to learn new working methods.
* Experience in Building services maintenance.
* Experience of working within a broad range of occupational guidelines.
* Has received appropriate formal training and developed a knowledge of all types of engineering systems.
* Working within a hospital environment or healthcare service.
* Carrying out PPM’s.
* Use of PDA.
Skills/Knowledge/ Ability
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Experience with computers and IT software.
