Long-term Teachers are working with a well respected special school in Cheltenham looking for an enthusiastic and confident TA to join the team on a full-time (can be flexible) basis from September. The school look after students with a range of special needs & disabilities aged 4-16. You could be working anywhere within the school for general class support. Qualifications are not essential, however, experience/interest with pupils with complex special educational needs is preferred. If you are enthusiastic, motivated and aim to enhance the educational experience of the pupils that you work with then please read the below Position Details: Role: SEND Teaching Assistant Start Date: September Location: Cheltenham Contract: Full-time (can be part-time) Key Responsibilities: To ensure the school can achieve its core purpose in providing the best possible educational outcomes for all learners. To ensure all aspects of safeguarding are fully undertaken in co-operation with all stakeholders. To support teaching staff with their responsibility for the development and education of pupils with moderate, severe and/or profound and multiple learning difficulties. To support pupils in accessing the curriculum provided by the school. Supervise the activities of the individual and to ensure their safety and to facilitate their physical and emotional development. Give positive encouragement, feedback and praise to reinforce and sustain the individual’s efforts and develop self-esteem. Support the pupils in developing social skills both in and out of the classroom. Monitor the progress of individual pupils and report on this to the class teacher as appropriate. Consistently and effectively follow the agreed Personal Support Plans and where appropriate, to know and apply positive handling techniques. Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflicts and incidents and encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour in line with established school policies. Support pupils with personal care and medical needs where appropriate; including completing gastrostomy competency training if required.
