Role Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our growing team in Manchester. This role is critical to supporting our expanding design function, where creativity, technical proficiency, and attention to detail are key. The ideal candidates will have experience in fabrication, sheet metal design, and SolidWorks, and will be involved in projects from concept through to final manufacturing. This will be a mixture of mechanical and product design, so if you have strong Solidworks skills and a creative edge this role could be for you.
Senior Design Engineer
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000
Location: Manchester
Hours: 40 hours per week (Flexible start/finish times, 1 day WFH after probation)

Key Responsibilities:
1. Mentor and lead 2 junior designers.
2. Take ownership of end-to-end design processes, conceptual design, and overseeing manufacturing.
3. Design and develop complex fabricated components, including sheet metal parts, assemblies, and structures using SolidWorks.
4. Ensure all design work meets client specifications, quality standards, and project timelines.
5. Review and check the design work of other team members, providing constructive feedback and ensuring technical accuracy.
6. Collaborate with procurement and project management teams to prioritise and delegate design tasks effectively.
7. Remain hands-on with design work while balancing managerial responsibilities.
Requirements:
1. Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and a deep understanding of fabrication, sheet metal design, and mechanical assemblies.
2. Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in a design engineering role.
3. Leadership: Prior experience mentoring or leading a team is desirable.
4. Communication: Excellent communication skills, able to liaise effectively with various internal teams and external clients.
5. Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot design challenges and innovate where necessary.
6. Attention to Detail: Strong technical accuracy when reviewing and approving designs.
