Overview:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Cloud Engineer to join our talented team where you'll play a vital role in delivering impactful digital solutions and ensuring the smooth operation of our AWS hosting platform. As a Cloud Engineer, you will support, manage, and maintain the core infrastructure that underpins production services. You’ll act as second or third-line support for incidents, problems, and changes to solutions and services. You will autonomously manage a varied workload of both operational support and delivery-focused tasks, and own tickets through to completion or escalation when required. You may deputise for Senior Cloud Engineers in planning/project meetings when necessary.
This role may also require some out-of-hours working due to production releases or scheduled maintenance, but any instances will be communicated and agreed upon with advance notice.
At this role level, you will:
• Provide specialist technical support and assistance to projects, ensuring delivery of non-functional requirements and continual service improvement.
• Be responsible for preparations and support of IT operations solutions and services, according to industry and organisational best practices, standards, service requirements and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) throughout the product life cycle.
• Coach and mentor junior team members.
• Assist in the provision of first class services and consistent levels of capability, as required by the organisation.
DDaT Pay Supplement:
This post is part of the Scottish Government Digital, Data and Technology (DDAT) profession and as a member of the profession you will join the professional development system. This post currently attracts a £5,000 annual DDAT pay supplement, applicable after a 3 months competency qualifying period. The payment will be backdated to your start date in the role. Pay supplements are reviewed regularly and there is one currently underway. Changes will be communicated when the review is concluded.
Main Duties:
• Manage service components to ensure they meet business needs and performance targets.
• Analyse and assess impact, and develop and document change requests.
• Implement changes based on requests for change.
• Show an awareness of the scripting tools and software that are available and currently in use.
• Identify process optimisation opportunities with guidance, and contribute to the implementation of proposed solutions.
• Diagnose and prioritise incidents, investigate their causes and find resolutions.
• Own an issue until a new owner has been found or the problem has been mitigated or resolved.
• Initiate and monitor actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems, effectively consult specialists where required.
• Determine the appropriate remedy and assist with its implementation.
• Determine preventative measures.
• Identify issues and risks associated with work.
