As the Finance Director, you will be the senior financial leader within the organisation, responsible for driving financial strategy, ensuring operational excellence, and maintaining the highest standards of corporate governance. The role is a broad, all-encompassing senior finance role focusing on commercials, developing leadership and strategy aligned with growth plans and business objectives, and educating the wider senior leadership team to drive commercial decision-making, profitability, and business performance. The holder is also responsible for ensuring the Board maintains first-class corporate governance of the business, including compliance and the company secretariat function.
Accountabilities
* Overseeing and leading in all aspects of finance and compliance, including the day-to-day running of the finance and compliance teams, and ensuring a strong control environment is established or maintained, as required.
* Led the budgeting and forecasting processes, including the financial models required, whilst challenging and supporting the business to deliver the underlying assumptions that drive this essential financial output. Producing in-depth financial analysis at a digestible level from this for sign-off by the Board.
* Mentor and lead a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Overseeing the preparation of financial management accounts, financial Board packs, statutory accounts, and financial audits, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
* Manage cash flow, treasury, capital expenditure, and working capital to optimize financial effectiveness and meet regulatory requirements, as well as ensuring adherence to purchase ledger and insurer ledger responsibilities of the business.
* In conjunction with Board direction, maintain corporate governance and key regulatory relationships of the business, for example with Companies House, HMRC, the FCA, and other relevant ‘oversight’ institutions, inclusive of completing company secretarial duties. The role is pivotal in ensuring all financial practices adhere to the relevant insurance regulations and standards.
* Evaluating new business cases and project proposals produced by the business through additional scenario planning and analysis to a ‘base case’ presented.
* Establish key relationships both internally and externally with a range of stakeholders, including audit/accountancy engagements, financial organizations, and key third-party suppliers.
* Money Laundering Officer (MLRO).
* Function as a liaison between finance and other areas of the business as well as external parties to ensure that financial implications are at the heart of business decisions.
Education, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Strategic Expertise: Strong track record of developing and executing financial strategies with limited support from the wider business.
Leadership Skills: Exceptional ability to lead and inspire teams, with a focus on delivering results in high-pressure, high-expectation settings where energy, passion, and integrity are all key traits needed to drive the performance and profitability of the business. Leads by example, can inspire others and earn respect while maintaining an independent viewpoint where necessary.
Industry Experience: Proven experience as a Finance Director, or equivalent, within an insurance intermediary or MGA, or substantial experience as a Financial Controller and ready for the next promotion.
Qualifications: ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional qualification. A strong academic background in finance or accounting is essential, a minimum of 3 years’ experience as Finance Director in an SME is preferred.
A working knowledge of Open GI is essential.
