Birmingham Friends of the Earth, Closing date: 12 August 2024
Compost Coordinator at Birmingham Friends of the Earth - 1 day per week paid role. Seeking someone with knowledge about and interest in composting, an excellent communicator with the ability to enthuse others, who is highly organised, dynamic and self-led.
Birmingham Friends of the Earth is looking for someone with a passion for compost-making, engagement and community action to support its ‘Compost Culture’ project.
Compost Culture is a five year partnership project in Birmingham, supported by the National Lottery’s Climate Action Fund and led by Incredible Surplus, to show the relevance and importance of compost in how society moves forward.
The project will build a resilient, self-sustaining network of composting and growing activity across Birmingham. It will inspire and support individuals, community groups, organisations and businesses to try composting and embed it as part of their daily activity, and press the local authority and other agencies to support hyper-local composting.
Birmingham Friends of the Earth’s role in the project will centre around our compost system within Digbeth Community Garden as a focus for outreach and learning, through a mix of hands-on volunteer sessions, talks, events and online engagement. The system takes food waste from our building, its Café and from some nearby households. Partners will be running a range of related events and activities at the other project locations across the city.
In summary, this role is to run BFOE’s participation in the project, with a strong focus on engaging a diverse range of people in composting and building networks.
We’re seeking someone with knowledge about and interest in composting, an excellent communicator with the ability to enthuse others, who is highly organised, dynamic and self-led.
