Legal Secretary - Wills, Trusts and Probate
Salary - Competitive and commensurate with experience

Our Private Client (Wills, Trusts and Probate) team in Barnard Castle is looking for a Legal Secretary with some experience in a legal setting to provide secretarial and administrative support to the fee earners to enable them to deliver a professional and responsive service to their clients.
Main duties and requirements:
* Full generic secretarial support as required, including preparing correspondence and documents through fast and accurate audio-typing and word processing.
* Attend clients, both in person and on the telephone, and provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the Firm’s standards for client care.
* Assist in Strongroom activities, such as storing and retrieving documents.
* Assist in marketing activities.
* Research information to ensure accuracy, and correspond with existing clients or contacts.
* Prepare documents from instructions.
* Administer both manual and electronic filing daily.
* Open, maintain, and close files on the case management system.
* Close, store, and retrieve client files.
* Prepare mail and enclosures for dispatch.
* Arrange for all copying to be done.
* Make appointments, arrange meetings, and maintain an up-to-date diary for fee earner(s).
* Provide guidance to new and temporary staff when required.
* Provide cover on Reception when required.
* Undertake any specific training when required by the Firm and have overall responsibility for self-development.
* Ensure the confidentiality of all the Firm’s and the Firm’s clients’ information and documentation.
* Contribute as a team member and provide sickness and other absence cover for other members of the team when required.
* Contribute as a team member in the continual review of efficiencies within the department.
Preferred skills and experience:
* Experience of working in a legal environment along with relevant departmental experience is desirable.
* Fast and accurate typing skills, including digital dictation and integrated legal systems.
* Experience of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
* Excellent English grammar/spelling; familiarity with legal terminology and numerical skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in dealing with a range of clients via telephone and face-to-face.
* Discretion and confidentiality are essential.
* Ability to organise and prioritise your workload to the required standard and within the required timescales.
* Ability to work effectively within a team as well as independently.
* Ability to work to strict deadlines when required; this may involve some flexibility in working hours and occasional overtime where deadlines need to be met.
* Proactive and able to use own initiative within guidelines set by the Partners and fee earners.
