Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation & Budgeting:
Prepare detailed cost estimates for groundworks projects, including materials, labor, plant, and subcontractor costs.
Assist in developing accurate budgets for groundworks and civil engineering activities.
Contract Management:
Assist with the preparation of tender documents, ensuring accurate measurement and pricing for groundworks elements.
Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to achieve competitive pricing and favorable contract terms.
Administer contracts throughout the project lifecycle, including interim valuations and final accounts.
Cost Control:
Monitor and report on project costs, highlighting variances and recommending corrective actions.
Work with the project manager and site teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and manage project budgets effectively.
Site Measurement & Valuations:
Conduct site visits to carry out measurements, valuations, and assessments of completed groundworks works.
Ensure accurate and timely submission of valuations and interim payments to clients and subcontractors.
Risk Management:
Identify and assess financial risks associated with groundworks projects, recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
Support the team in managing any contractual claims or disputes.
Collaboration & Reporting:
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and project progression.
Provide regular reports on financial performance, including cost forecasts, to senior management.
Compliance & Standards:
Ensure all works are carried out in compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
Keep up to date with changes in legislation, cost trends, and best practices within the groundworks sector.Skills & Experience:
Education & Qualifications:
A degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Professional accreditation or working towards membership with RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) is desirable.
Experience:
6-10 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with specific experience in groundworks or civil engineering projects.
Proven experience in cost estimating, budgeting, and contract administration for groundworks projects.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in quantity surveying software (e.g., CostX, WinQS, or similar).
Strong understanding of groundworks activities such as earthworks, drainage, roads, and foundations.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Good problem-solving abilities and proactive approach to managing challenges.Desirable Skills:
Experience with NEC or JCT contracts.
Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and 3D take-offs.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations in the construction industry
