Main Duties & Responsibilities: Clinical Responsibilities Assessment of clients who may be highly distressed and co-construct a psychological formulation of difficulties. Develop an agreed and individualised, specialist intervention according to the plan Provide clinical case management supervision to the PHPs to ensure the delivery of appropriate first line assessment and onward planning for clients. Facilitate group clinical supervision for PHPs across a number of NCNs to support their ongoing professional development needs and work-related wellbeing Keep up to date records of supervision (case management and group supervision) Develop and maintain knowledge of an extensive range of therapeutic techniques acquired through professional qualification Monitor and identify emerging local patterns of clinical need Oversee the development and delivery of time-limited, evidence based, group interventions where emerging patterns indicate need and where such services are not locally available Manage a specialist clinical caseload and support PHP with more complex cases Provide person centred assessments for specialist caseload following standardised protocols for adults presenting for common mental health difficulties of minor severity Manage and communicate highly sensitive information Carry out assessments of risk and support PHP with their risk assessments To ensure the integrity and proper evaluation of psychological assessments and interventions applied by any PHP under the post holders clinical supervision within the service To attend monthly service meetings, and where appropriate, local practice meetings To have a good working knowledge and experience of the specific interventions for which they are providing supervision (largely CBT, but including other evidence-based approaches such as ACT, MBCT, CFT) Address gaps in own experience by supervisor training and familiarisation with specific services Professional Responsibilities To support the management of the PHP workloads within the framework of the services and local practices policies and procedures Meet with senior psychologist on a regular basis to discuss relevant professional matters, including reviewing and up-dating a Professional Development Plan Keep up-to-date records in relation to continued professional development in line with professional registration body and the ABUHB Psychology Service CPD Policy Ensure personal development plan maintains up to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments Maintain knowledge of range of standardised assessments, interventions and specialist techniques for working with people with mental health difficulties of minor severity Disseminate recently acquired knowledge to colleagues within the service following literature searches, and attendance at courses and conferences To meet regularly with an experienced psychological therapist for clinical Supervision, in accordance with the good practice guidelines as outlined in the ABUHBs Clinical Supervision Policy. To keep an up-to-date record of supervision received according to the policy of the ABUHB Psychology Service Responsible for keeping up-to-date with the policies and procedures relevant to direct case work To participate in the professional meetings and activities of the PHP service and Primary Care Mental Health Support Service, as appropriate Communication and Relationship skills Ability to communicate and relate to people warmly and with empathy Be able to obtain sensitive and often complex information from distressed and sometimes hostile clients, and able to manage obstacles to communication (e.g. use of interpreters) where appropriate Must be able to tolerate the stress and anxiety of being responsible for patients psychological treatment, particularly when levels of distress are high Ability to line manage PHPs with compassion Ability to develop rapport with Primary care clinical and management teams, where required, in order to support PHP service delivery issues that may arise Training and Development Develop highly specialist knowledge of service and areas relevant to cohort Oversee safe practice and clinical skills development of the PHPs, including providing training if required To receive regular professional supervision from the Senior Psychologist Undertake the training required to maintain professional accreditation Participate and maintain mandatory training and continued professional development Identify training needs, and contribute to training events and conferences, as required Attend and actively participate in own appraisals and complete, on a regular basis a professional developmental portfolio Analysis and Judgement Support PHPs where required with complex and challenging cases Planning and Organisation Oversee clinical workload of PHPs in accordance with the service specifications Ensure the agreed care is delivered, evaluated and reviewed on a regular basis, where appropriate Manage own workload and oversee the workload of the PHPs making short term adjustments to ensure service delivery and continuity. Review records of all clinical work in line with PCMHSS and ABUHB requirements Manage and maintain an electronic diary in service defined format of all work activities, making it available for the support of the PHPs Use keyboard and information technology skills including word processing, email, intranet and internet, video consultations, power point for communication, correspondence, and clinical reports Demonstrate effective time management and organisational ability enabling delivery of individual job plan Policy and Service Development To lead on service development and innovative service delivery by identifying, proposing and implementing changes Ensure treatment delivery remains accessible, convenient and with minimal waiting times as agreed by senior clinicians and managers Ensure knowledge of local area and options for community based activity/support is up-to-date To contribute to the development of best practice within the service in line with NICE guidelines and local strategy within the Neighbourhood Care Network (NCN) for the local population Support the PHPs in building working relationships with GP surgeries and local community support services Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues involved with service development and planning Support PHP with suggested service changes To maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures in relation to Mental Health and Primary Care Services Participate in programmes of audit and research within the team as agreed, implementing the findings All employees have a duty and responsibility for their own health and safety and the health of safety of colleagues, patients and the general public All employees have a responsibility and a legal obligation to ensure that information processed for both patients and staff is kept accurate, confidential, secure and in line with the Data Protection Act (1998), Security and Confidentiality Policies and Clinical Governance It is the responsibility of all staff that they do not abuse their official position for personal gain, to seek advantage of further private business or other interests in the course of their official duties Financial and Physical Resource Demonstrate an understanding of the resource implications of clinical decision making Use available resources effectively ensuring adherence to financial control procedures, specifically NCN budgetary constraints when recruiting/allocating PHPs to NCN areas.
