Healthcare Assistant (HCA) - Outpatients
Overview
The health care worker is a member of the care team appointed to support Registered Nurses in the delivery of direct patient care. The role involves contact on a physical and psychological level with patients and their families. The post holder will undertake a range of activities under the supervision of a registered nurse, having been assessed and deemed competent in the activities required.
The LivingCare Group has multiple sites across the West Yorkshire region. As part of this role, you may be required to travel between sites.
Responsibilities
* Support the registered nurse in the implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received.
* Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of the patient, relatives, and carers.
* Support with auditing and stock checks and management as required.
* Set up the room and prepare all clinical areas in line with service requirements.
* Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with all members of the team.
* Contribute to the legality and accuracy of the patient's care plan and/or other reports and the effectiveness of the established communication/reporting system.
* Participate in regular meetings and attend other meetings as requested.
* Undertake tasks and procedures in which competency has been assessed and recorded specific to the care environment.
* Meet and greet patients that require testing, ensuring you have checked their personal details against the information provided.
* Engage with patients, providing reassurance and answering questions.
* Perform administrative duties and case management on System 1.
* Report data and information via the correct channels and escalate positive samples for reporting to PHE within timescale.
* Ensure all processes for carrying out swabbing are followed as per our policy.
* Run POCT devices as per protocol.
* Ensure adequate verbal consent process for swabbing procedures as per guidance.
* Prepare swabbing kits ready for the patient's arrival.
* Provide support and assistance to registered staff.
* Assist in the maintenance of stock levels, including pharmaceutical products as directed by the Registered Lead Nurse.
* Assist in the maintenance of clinic cleanliness and tidiness and adhere to infection control policy and procedures at all times.
* Receive and convey information from telephone or personal enquiries in a courteous manner and ensure all persons visiting the clinic are greeted and assisted in a welcoming and supportive manner.
* Assist and support registered nurses and clerical staff in administrative duties as required.
