How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Meadoway Crew Leader leads a team of 3-6 staff to implement meadow restoration and invasive management activities. These activities may include site preparation, seeding, monitoring, and herbicide application. Candidates will demonstrate the relevant skills, techniques, and best management practices for meadow restoration and invasive species management. The Crew Leader actively participates in the safe operation and maintenance of a range of tools and equipment including tractors, zero turn mowers and backpack sprayers. This position plays an integral role in the on-ground implementation of meadow restoration and ecosystem enhancement through the management of invasive species, bringing their leadership skills together with their ecological knowledge. Occupational health and safety is a major responsibility of this position.
Major Responsibilities:
* Performs field work, liaising with the supervisor and other team members to coordinate field work activities to ensure work is completed in compliance with TRCA policies, standards and timelines.
* Conducts field work and supports the coordination of field work by providing on-site work coordination to the team.
* Ensures quality control are completed daily, with records maintained and accessible.
* Complete daily work reports, and project information records as assigned.
* Coordinates the operation and maintenance of equipment as required (ranges from small tools and measuring devices to heavy equipment); may also operate machinery/tools as required.
* Ensures the required site activities are completed as per work scope.
* Participates in and/or leads daily safety meetings including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning.
* Incumbents may also be assigned other duties.
* Provides support for and actively participates in the implementation of meadow restoration and adaptive management activities including site prep, mowing, tilling, seeding and invasive species management.
What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)
* Completion of college diploma in Resource Management, Ecological Restoration or Management, Environmental or Engineering Science, Landscape Design, Forestry, Construction, or a related field.
* Ontario Pesticide Exterminator’s License (Land or Forestry).
Experience
* 2+ years of experience in implementation tasks in areas of specialization.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies
* The ability to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in a field environment; is able to break down site required activities and delegate and estimate time/resources/budget required to complete tasks.
* Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislation.
* Knowledge of native and invasive plants with proficient plant identification skills.
* Knowledge/experience with meadow restoration practices including experience operating tractors/implements/equipment required for meadow restoration.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills and participate as team member as well as deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
* Familiarity with mapping natural landscape features and reading maps.
* Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, Excel, Word, SharePoint, knowledge of ESRI ArcMap and Field Maps is an asset.
