Position: ERAT Diesel SME - 160394 Location: Norfolk, VA Travel: 25 % Relocation Offered: No Company Background Investigation, US citizenship, and a secret security clearance is required for this position. Position Description: Provide the Diesel Engineering Readiness Assistance Team (ERAT) support. • Collect data through observation and by meeting with ships' engineering watch standers, principle assistants, Engineering Officers on CNSL ships. • Work with the ships' crew and observe, mentor and provide recommended remediation to the department leadership to improve shipboard material condition. • Review ships' Current Ship Maintenance Project (CSMP) prior to arriving on board for an ERAT visit and provide a report of recommended material corrections to ships leadership during the Arrival Brief. • Provide a report for correction of ship's imminent material failure items and a report of each visited ship's overall material discrepancies report; identify and provide recommendations for required repair parts. Work with the ship's crew to train and provide immediate feedback on the crews ability to conduct cold material checks in preparation of Light Off Assessment. • Develop and provide a government-owned, tailored curriculum for use in a ship-specific, classroom training setting utilizing Technical Manuals and associated Tactical Memos and instructions, as well as utilizing technical documentation pertaining to the duties/responsibilities for operation of steam systems. • The tailored curriculum will cover basic engineering plant familiarization and progress through theory and systems. • Incorporate into the curriculum, applicable lessons-learned from PESC conferences, working groups, waterfront seminars, recent waterfront experience for continuous process improvement, lessons learned conferences, and other sources as provided by the government. Education/Certification Requirements: • Minimum 20 years' experience with marine engineering background, to include demonstrated relevant shipboard experience within the past 5 years. • Experience to mirror that of the senior enlisted engineer on steam (LSD/LPD) propulsion systems. • For example, have at least 15 years of hands-on experience to include multiple sea tours as Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW), Engineering Division Leading Chief, and Engineering Work Center Supervisor over the course of a career and having been designated by a ship’s Commanding Officer to receive Special Duty Assignment Pay (SDAP) as a Top Snipe. • Graduate of the appropriate Navy A and C Schools. • Considered an "Expert" in the marine diesel propulsion field. SMEs must be physically able to climb up and/or down a pilot’s ladder to board a naval vessel underway at sea and stay onboard on a U.S. Naval Vessel for several underway days
