Garment Technologist What is the role To implement the technical strategy for the Pixiegirl and Star Julien Macdonald ranges of multiple product categories for working with the technical and buying team to produce product consistent to the companies desired fit and quality requirements. To assist in the development of the supplier/factory base assuring quality, minimising returns and increasing customer’s satisfaction. Working in partnership with the supply base to deliver a product that fits and flatters. What you will do: • To fit all products ensuring that the buyers brief is followed • To write fit comments for the suppliers and to be the technical liaison • To approve graded size charts • To ensure that the fit is consistent across the range. • To assist in the management and development of the basic block library • Approve care labelling and testing requirements as well as communication decisions to the supplier. • Organises and co-ordinate wearer trials. • To ensure that all suppliers follow supplier compliance, challenge, and manage underperformance where necessary. • Actively participates in monitoring all returns and customer feed back. • To have the ability to read and advise on test reports and advise on the suitability of fabrics. • Where possible to visit supply base regularly and be able to comment on the supplier factories capability to meet requirements • To assist in the maintenance of the supplier manual • Regularly visit stores and work closely with retail colleagues (where relevant) • Oversee the critical path management from the technical department with the Buying team. • To stay informed about relevant product safety, legislation, and standards to ensure that product complies with these through product evaluation and risk assessment. What you will bring: • A relevant qualification at degree or equivalent level • Experience of the manufacturing environment, preferably within garment technology, pattern cutting, grading and product development • In-depth understanding of different fabric shape and fit, i.e jersey, wovens etc • Adequate experience in either a retailer or supplier, ideally a minimum of 3 years’ experience at similar level • Experience of working within a multiple brand retailer preferable • Ability to convey technical detail clearly to a layman • Proficient user of Microsoft and excel. • Exceptional communication, organisation & prioritisation skills • Effective communicator, presenter and team player • Ability to adopt a flexible approach when required and to think swiftly • Excellent time management and organisation skills • Confident working in a fast-paced environment and able to prioritise projects • Proactive and keen to take on new tasks
