Child Therapist/ Counsellor - Specialist Weight Loss Service
Our Specialist weight management service is looking for a Registered Counsellor to deliver excellent care to Children and Young people in Nottinghamshire. This role will be based out of Mansfield but the postholder must be willing to travel, have a valid license, and access to a vehicle.
The service aims to empower individuals and communities towards a healthier future by promoting health awareness. The Child Therapist integrates psychological theory with therapeutic techniques to help people overcome and deal with problematic life events and mental health issues. They engage people and their communities to help identify barriers whilst empowering them to overcome these.
* The role is designed to support children and young people in various settings, including face-to-face, community-based, digital, and via telephone.
* The role involves the assessment of clients referred and the provision of child therapy sessions.
* The role includes ensuring the therapeutic support provides a clear, evidence-based, effective, and consistent service for all clients.
* The role will continuously develop methods and resources that result in improved/effective wellbeing and behaviours for all ages.
Main duties of the job
This post will work under the line management of the Head of Service with clinical supervision from the Divisional therapist lead. The role provides therapeutic interventions to children and young people accessing specialist weight management programmes.

ABL Health aims to provide high-quality, evidence-based nutritional care that is clinically and cost-effective. The service works with various health professionals, partner departments, and organisations, including GP practices and other community services.
You will join a new team comprising a Head of Service, nutritionists, therapists, exercise specialists, and administrators. The post holder will work within the wider MDT of GPs, psychologists, dietitians, nutritionists, exercise specialists, and healthy lifestyle advisors to provide administration support and oversee the single point of access.
Job responsibilities
Key responsibilities will be:
* To work effectively and collaboratively to ensure the successful operation of therapeutic provision within the service, providing interventions to children and young people.
* To be a part of a multi-disciplinary assessment (MDA) team, facilitating psychological and risk assessments to aid the development of client/family formulations and care pathways.
* Support children to discuss and work through complex, sensitive, and personal information related to their presentation, including deconstruction of current interactional patterns of behaviour and meaning around obesity issues.
* To prepare and participate in peer supervisions and case reviews with other therapists regularly across the organisation.
* Maintain accurate and detailed case notes and client records utilising digital systems and databases.
* To attend team meetings and contribute to agendas and discussions, preparing for Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings (MDT) and completing relevant paperwork.
* To provide effective individual child interventions, helping clients engage in the specialist weight management programme and/or physical activity interventions.
* To provide systemic child therapy, employing evidence-based methods sensitive to the needs of children from diverse backgrounds.
* To contribute knowledge, skills, and ideas to optimise the outcomes of the specialist weight management programme and/or physical activity interventions.
* To participate in multi-agency meetings, child protection case conferences, and reviews, providing professional advice on individual care programme planning.
* The post holder will be expected to prioritise their workload and ensure effective time management strategies.
* To be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of their work, including the management of patients/service users.
* To undertake self-directed/lone working in various locations.
* To stay up-to-date with developments in psychological and family therapy for obesity treatment.
* To have suitable external supervision arrangements with a qualified approved supervisor.
Skills and Competencies Required
* Be an experienced therapist in a community health environment, assisting and delivering support to children and young people.
* Experience of working with diverse communities within varied cultural environments.
* Adept in communication; A strong communicator who adapts the message to fit the audience's needs.

Person Specification
Skills and Knowledge
* Knowledge of professional bodies' ethical code of conduct.
* Cognitive behavioural therapy core concepts and behaviour change models.
* Experience of working with behaviour change client groups or similar.
* Good communication and facilitation skills.
* Administration skills relating to psychological assessments, psychometrics, and risk assessments.
* IT skills for administrative tasks and good time management.
* Skills and knowledge of working with issues relating to weight management.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and information governance practices.
Job Specific Requirements
* The ability to travel independently across Oldham, Stockport, and as required to ABL Health HQ in Greater Manchester.
* Work flexibly and adapt to suit service needs, including some evening and occasional weekend work.
Qualifications
* A relevant professional qualification at degree level e.g. in social work, nursing, psychology, or other relevant field, professional counselling qualification/or IAPT or similar, e.g. play therapy or integrative psychotherapy.
* Able to work in a therapeutic way that responds to clients' needs, including knowledge of cognitive behavioural therapy or behavioural approaches.
* Registered accredited member of a professional body (such as AFT, BABCP, BPS, BACP, UKCP).
* CBT qualification or counselling equivalent.
Experience
* Experience of delivering child and young persons therapeutic interventions.
* Experience of facilitating psychological assessments and formulating.
* More than 2 years of post-qualifying experience of delivering child and young person interventions.

£26,500 to £28,500 a year pro rata for part-time.
