Finance Assistant – Permanent

Hours – Monday to Friday 40 hours

They are a leading furniture importer/wholesaler in the UK that has grown to be one of the largest companies in the furniture sector. Purpose of the Finance Assistant Role:
Our client is looking for a Finance Assistant who will be responsible for handling a wide range of accounting tasks and projects; ranging from preparing monthly journals and supplier invoicing to monthly management reporting and challenging the business concerning how to drive financial improvement. You will work closely with a variety of teams across the business to support existing business processes and to identify opportunities to enhance efficiencies.
The role has been newly created to support ongoing business improvement. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the role is a perfect fit for someone with energy and ambition who wants to develop their career and add value to the business.
Main duties and responsibilities of the Finance Assistant Role:
1. Preparing a full set of management accounts.
2. Raising journals in small business accountancy software systems (eg Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Sage).
3. Performance monthly actuals vs forecast management reporting, with appropriate business insights.
4. Preparing statutory disclosures to support annual statutory reporting.
5. Performing supplier invoicing and processing payments.
6. Completing VAT returns and VAT payments relating to UK operations and importing activities.
7. Making payments in foreign currencies.
8. Identifying opportunities for business improvement and working with teams across the business to support improving efficiency and adding financial value.
Experience/knowledge requirements for the Finance Assistant Role:
9. Minimum 5 years of relevant finance experience.
10. Minimum AAT level 3 or similar.
11. A self-motivated individual, with energy and ambition to personally develop and to support business improvement.
12. Excellent communication skills.
13. A track record of consistently delivering to a high standard.
14. Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
15. Strong Excel skills.
