Our enthusiastic and ambitious staff work out of offices in Central Manchester and Central London with hybrid working options available. Colleagues typically work from home four days a week with one day in the office.

This role will be based in our Manchester office and the salary banding is £30,000 - £34,000 per annum.
Main Purpose and Scope of the Role
Develop and lead the formation of impactful local authority and devolved policy that supports the NRLA’s vision of a rental sector that works for all. Support all areas of the business and the NRLA membership by producing guidance materials and news pieces for use on the website. The role will also involve building and maintaining relationships with regional and local stakeholders.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead on policy development that supports landlords
• Develop policy proposals that support landlords.
• Work with the rest of the policy team and other NRLA departments to ensure the NRLA puts forth consistent policy messages.
• Prepare research papers, reports, consultation responses, and other policy-related materials for the organisation.
• Undertake research as required to support the NRLA policy goals.
Provide tolls and knowledge for landlords
• Produce high-quality written, audio and visual content to inform and educate landlords.
• Support the communications, training and advice teams to ensure their materials are accurate.
• Liaise with external providers where appropriate to produce resources for the website.
Ensure the organisation and its leaders are up to date with policy developments
• Provide policy advice to the NRLA directors, staff and members.
• Provide regular updates on policy projects to other departments.
• Work with communications and campaign colleagues to ensure policy and research projects are given appropriate media attention.
Engaging external stakeholders
• Produce regular content to promote the NRLA policy goals to local authorities and other relevant stakeholders.
• Attend meetings with external stakeholders or brief other colleagues ahead of meetings.
• Identify potential partners for policy projects and build relationships with them.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications
• Degree in politics, public policy, or other relevant subject; or equivalent experience in a housing enforcement role.
Skills and Abilities
•Good verbal and written communication skills (essential).
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (essential).
•Ability to establish priorities and manage a complex workload (essential).
•Flexible, with demonstrable ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team (essential).
Experience
•Previous experience working in a housing enforcement or homelessness prevention role (essential).
•Project management experience (essential).
•Previous experience with selective or additional licensing schemes (desirable).
Knowledge
•Understanding of UK politics, the private rented sector, and the role of trade associations.
•Understanding of local authority enforcement and homelessness prevention work.
•Understanding the role of national and devolved governments and how to interact with governmental stakeholders.
Personal Attributes and other Requirements
•Commitment to the NRLA’s objectives.
•Willingness to travel occasionally (e.g. to our offices in Cardiff and London and across England and Wales for meetings and engaging with NRLA members).
•Willingness to occasionally work out of office hours (e.g. attend relevant events).
•Excellent interpersonal skills to develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
