Job overview
The post holder will be responsible for the line management within the department of registered and non-registered staff including completion of appraisals. You will need to be able to work as part of the multidisciplinary team. Skills related to communication, leadership, and negotiation would be an advantage.
You will be required to attend meetings relevant to the post/service and complete any actions that arise from these meetings. You will be expected to focus on patient experience and feedback e.g. compliments, concerns, and complaints.
This post will include being responsible for ensuring correct governance processes related to health and safety, clinical risks, incidents, relevant audits, and assessments e.g. CQC, QA are managed with support from the Matron/Quality Risk and Safety Practice Development Matron/Medical Lead. The post holder will need to engage with this work along with the planning and delivery of future services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as operational leader for the department and will be required to:
1. Act as leader for the department, regularly taking charge and ensuring that the standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintained at a high standard.
2. Be an effective leader and role model, providing regular direct clinical care and using experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance.
3. Work flexibly as a member of the department team and in support of the Sister and Matron to ensure standards are being maintained, evaluated, and improved.
4. Be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Training & Qualifications
* Current level one NMC registration
* Experience of recent medical or surgical nursing.
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* Formal leadership and management training/course
* Degree in health/nursing related studies or equivalent level of study
* Completion of any local competency packages

* Substantial experience at Band 5/6 within an acute setting
* Supervision of non-registered staff, pre-registration, and post-basic students
