About The Role SAFETY, HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT (SHE) ADVISOR DIVISION: Civils LOCATION: Hunterston, Scotland BENEFITS: Car Allowance; Subsidised Private Medical Cover; Life Assurance Scheme; Contributory Pension, 35 Days annual leave (Including Public Holidays) GRAHAM is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a solid understanding of construction methods, safety, health, and environmental legislation, as well as processes and procedures. Role Overview: Reporting to the SHE Director and Head of H&S (Civil Engineering), the successful candidate will provide assistance and advice on our project in Scotland, and support improvements to existing SHE procedures. Key Responsibilities: Offer support, advice, and guidance to the Project Management team on SHE matters. Conduct site health, safety & environmental compliance audits, and behavioural/cultural audits. Investigate accidents, incidents, and high potential observations. Assist with and/or deliver relevant training programs. Deliver induction programs, tool-box talks, and briefings as required. Review company and subcontractor paperwork, including procedures and forms. Prepare information for regular site bulletins. Prepare legislation updates and advisory memos for the site management team and operatives. Assist in the preparation and updating of construction phase plans, method statements, and risk assessments. Assist in the preparation and updating of environment management plans and site waste management plans. Encourage observation reporting. Attend and represent the company at relevant industry forums. Lead by example. Additional Responsibilities: Assist with responses to PQQ, Bid, and tender questions. Assist with applications for waste exemptions, consents, licenses, etc. This job description aims to provide an overview of the role of the SHE Advisor and the range of duties to be undertaken. Specific tasks and objectives will be agreed upon with the post holder at regular intervals. Technical Competencies Essential: Formal H&S qualification (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate minimum). Holder of CSCS / CSR / Safepass card. Appropriate Security Clearance (or willingness and ability to obtain it). Detailed knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation. Detailed knowledge of relevant Environmental legislation. Sound understanding of construction processes. Minimum of 5 years H&S experience in construction or a related discipline. Minimum of 3 years experience in construction within the water, rail, or highways sector. Strong communication, numeracy, and literacy skills. Proficiency in Microsoft packages such as Outlook, Word, and Excel. Desirable: NEBOSH Construction Certificate or Diploma. Experience working directly on or with site teams in a construction environment. Working towards or possessing Grad IOSH or equivalent professional qualification. Detailed knowledge of relevant management standards (45001 / HSG65 / Safe-T-Cert). Awareness of quality management and environmental systems and standards (9001/14001/etc.). Knowledge of a Behavioural Based Safety approach to H&S improvement. Awareness of current Client standards and expectations (e.g., NIW, Network Rail, Highways England).
