This is a fixed term position of 23 months.
The shift pattern for this position is Monday - Friday.
Speech and Language Therapy staff in mental health services work in multi-disciplinary teams to provide specialist and generic services which enables service users to achieve health, well-being and optimum function. Service users participate in graded treatment, thus limiting the impact of physical health and mental health problems on ability to function independently.
Speech and Language Therapists are a vital part of the CAMHS team providing specialist assessment, formulation and programmes of care within the field of communication impairment and mental health.
This post will focus on a targeted project to reduce the longest waits in CAMHS with a particular focus on assessment and short interventions to support young people to get timely treatment and then be discharged. This post will require a different way of working and will be as part of a small team who will have targeted work to reduce waiting times – it is anticipated there will be a focus on neurodevelopmental assessments. Job plans will not be within a standardised CAPA model but rather developed as a specific waiting list work. This post will be line managed by the clinical coordinator within the CAMHS team and work allocated accordingly. Your duties will include:
* Work within CAMHS within multi-agency structure initially with a specific waiting list team and focused on waiting list reduction
* Independently manage a caseload of cases taking on the role of care manager/key worker as required.
* Act independently to assess the speech, language and communication needs of a defined client group utilising highly specialist skills to assess, implement, grade and evaluate appropriate treatment programmes.
* Act independently to assess individual service users to determine their need for speech and language therapy intervention through client-centred practice.
* It is anticipated that neurodevelopmental assessments will form a significant part of this case load.
You should have:
* Diploma/Degree in Speech and Language Pathology and Therapeutics.
* Registered with the HCPC.
* RCSLT Certificate to Practice
* Up to date mandatory and statutory training record e.g. Fire safety, management of aggression.
* Proven specialist skills and knowledge in relation to SLT in mental health and/or young people gained through a range of short specialist course and experience gained through working in multi-disciplinary or multi agency teams.
