Role Description
Salary circa £73k (Southampton – Hybrid 3 days a week in office)
Our Southampton branch continues to profitably grow at pace and we’re seeking a Branch Motor Fleet Underwriting Manager to join the team on our journey leading and motivating a team of Motor Fleet Underwriters. The purpose of this role is to contribute towards delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through the monitoring of the account performance, control of underwriting standards, business development activity and ensuring that business written is done so in a technically excellent manner, adhering to underwriting authority and standards.
This position will be based in Southampton, on a hybrid working model (typically minimum 3 days a week in the office or with brokers).
Role Details:
* As the custodian of the technical underwriting performance for Motor Fleet across the branch, you will enable the local team to successfully deliver the Commercial strategy for profitable growth through appropriate deployment of our underwriting capacity.
* Proactively build long-term, sustainable business relationships with region and branch colleagues, and externally with brokers in order to engender customer loyalty and achieve profitable growth in line with our Commercial ambition.

About You
Key Accountabilities:
* Monitors the performance of accounts and lines of business within Southampton Motor Fleet, identifying under and over performance, driving and implementing remedial and opportunity actions as appropriate.
* Delivers KPI targets across complex cases/portfolios worked upon to deliver the high level line of business strategies and understands Account Management principles and the impact of portfolio changes or individual cases on the account.
* Adheres to Underwriting Authority and understands the impact portfolio or case decisions have on Profit and Loss and the achievement of plan.
* Makes important Commercial business decisions when they are required to support profitable development of supplier relationships, supporting the distribution segmentation strategy and delivery of plan. Provides support to stakeholders on business development activities.
* Undertakes and reports on Underwriting Inspections (where required), account control and quality review programmes.
* Produces Technical training material and is experienced in training, mentoring and coaching. In conjunction with Subject Matter Experts, organises and leads Technical training. Participates in assessment, design and delivering of technical training as required.
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
* Liaises with all other appropriate internal parties including Sales and Distribution, Pricing, Claims and Operations and represents Allianz at internal and external forums.
Technical Skills
* An in-depth understanding of the make-up of policy wordings, clauses and non-standard covers available and their implications with an ability to convey that understanding.
* Able to identify cover and hazards influencing the acceptance, pricing or terms applicable to a risk and apply risk management techniques and appropriate underwriting rules to ensure sufficient breadth of risks is available to Allianz.
* Understanding of the skills and tools required for effective Underwriting and has the ability to use these key skills to underwrite risks profitably.
* Understands causes and costs of claims and can apply appropriate risk management tools to mitigate loss.
* In-depth understanding of relevant legislation and its application .
* Demonstrates an understanding of Underwriting skills required to actively contribute to segmentation and product development activities.
* Ability to interpret statistical data, including identification of trends, influences and anomalies on a case-by-case and local account basis.
* Full working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
* High level Underwriting Authority in Line of Business achieved or being worked towards.
Experience
* Experience of Underwriting Motor Fleet lines .
* Experience of working within a general insurer environment with responsibility for top and bottom line performance of a portfolio or suite of portfolios.
* Leadership experience.
* Strong record of delivery against challenging objectives.
* Proven ability to understand key underwriting concepts and principles.
* Professional qualified such as ACII or equivalent would be preferable.
