Description Job Title: Enterprise Manager - Converge Grade and Salary: Grade 8 (£46,735 - £57,422) FTE and Working Pattern: Full time, Fixed-term contract until 31st December 2025 (likely to be extended, subject to SFC funding confirmation). Organisation Name: Business and Enterprise Purpose of Role An exciting role of Enterprise Manager is now available in the Converge team based at the Business and Enterprise Services of Heriot-Watt University. The role provides an opportunity to play a key role in developing and growing a premium pan-Scotland entrepreneurship programme for students, staff and graduates from across all Scottish Universities. You will be responsible for increasing awareness of Converge programmes and the wider offering among all 19 Scottish Universities, research institutes and other stakeholders within entrepreneurship eco-system in Scotland and beyond as well as advising Converge participants. With a background in student enterprise and/or commercialisation of research, entrepreneurship you will have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to network effectively; excellent written and oral communications skills; and a proven ability in innovation related project development and management. The posts reports to the Executive Director of Converge and will require a moderate amount of travel across Scotland and some evening/weekend hours. Key priorities will include: A key role in the engagement with staff of 19 Universities Build mutually beneficial interactions and partnerships with universities, select entrepreneurship organisations and Converge’s strategic and commercial partners Proactive engagement with aspiring academic entrepreneurs and Converge alumni Proactive management of the Converge process to ensure that effective support mechanisms are in place Key Duties and Responsibilities A. Support delivery of Converge enterprise activities: Promote Converge opportunities within all 19 Scottish Universities and Research Institutes by creating new and maintaining existing relationship with Schools and Research Departments Promote Converge programmes and wider offering across Scotland Work with colleagues to enhance the climate of support for entrepreneurship within Scottish Universities Create new content and deliver enterprise workshops, bootcamps and mini programmes based on our university partners’ needs and requests Supporting new companies from the business concept stage through to incorporation by providing advice and guidance Provision of advice to potential entrepreneurs on preparation of business plans, financial plans, presentations and pitches Identifying opportunities for new collaborations and projects Other duties as specified by the Director of Converge. B. Operations: Responsible for line management of Enterprise Executives based in Glasgow and/or Northeast of Scotland Maintaining CRM records and identifying opportunities for improvement of data management Planning and logistics of Converge programmes Design and plan programme of enterprise activities throughout the year Liaising with internal HW stakeholders in relation to legal, finance, IT and HR Working with suppliers to support delivery of key activities Project management including budgeting for specific projects. C. Stakeholder management: Work with colleagues to further develop an external network connecting Converge to the business community Liaising with Converge partners to maximise mutual opportunities and maintain relationships Representing Converge at events, conferences and external meetings Managing university relationships in the east of Scotland including University of St Andrews and University of Stirling Education, Qualifications & Experience Essential Student enterprise and/or commercialisation of research and enterprise creation Spin-out or small company funding/management/development experience Relevant higher education degree Proven ability to develop effective working relationships with commercial partners and other stakeholders Awareness of Scottish entrepreneurial ecosystem, including funding and development opportunities for entrepreneurs Experience co-ordinating activity across several organisations Ability to create content and deliver training Experience to represent your organisation to a variety of internal and external stakeholders A successful record of meeting financial and other performance targets Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal Experience of working in small team Desirable Experience of business development and/or fundraising Knowledge and experience of setting and achieving KPIs for entrepreneurial activities Demonstrate problem analysis and resolution skills Demonstrate an ability to work independently within the framework of the project An understanding of academic values and the ability to win the confidence and support of the academic community Experience of events management and delivery About our Team Converge is the leading enterprise support organisation working in partnership with Scottish Universities and Research Institutes.
