Job Description

The Ultra Engineering function manages a portfolio of specialist capabilities, generating highly differentiated solutions and products by applying electronic, mechanical, and software technologies in demanding and critical environments to meet customer needs.

The Project/Systems Engineering function in Ultra provides expertise to all projects through the bid and full development lifecycle. It ensures that both project and statutory requirements are suitably met and works to improve the effectiveness of the systems engineering approach within the company.

Key Responsibilities:

* Represents the Systems discipline as a senior member/leads SE for the totality of the Systems assigned work packages and tasking to deliver obligations and commitments on time and budget.
* Supports the Engineering Project Lead (EPL) in delivering the engineering obligations of a project, to the agreed plans, budget and schedule.
* Responsible for all aspects of the development of technical solutions to large and complex engineering problems, following Systems Engineering processes.
* Develop Systems Engineering artefacts across the product development lifecycle.
* Provide technical direction and exert technical influence across numerous project work packages.
* Work closely with the system, hardware, firmware and software architects to ensure consistency and technical excellence.
* Plan, coordinate and present at internal and external design reviews.
* Lead, manage and report on defined aspects of the project to achieve optimal balance between requirements, schedule and cost.
* Manage customers and external suppliers to ensure compliance with agreed processes.
* Ensure and review technical proposals, and provide accurate estimates for associated effort, costs and risks.
* Estimate time and effort required for systems activities and deliver to these estimates.
* Review and sign off significant technical documents.
* Explain technically complex concepts clearly to less technical parties.
* Manage security of information as defined in the Security manual.
* Actively support improvements to the Systems discipline.
* As required, support recruitment and early careers development.
* Develop to achieve a specific Subject Matter Expertise.
* Accept Line Management duties, proactively leading and coaching reports.

Role Requirements:

* Essential:
o Has or gains and then maintain, SC security clearance.
* Desirable:
o Willing and eligible to obtain, and maintain, DV security clearance.

Qualifications / Skills Required:

* Essential:
o Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or suitable Defence/Aerospace industry experience.
o Significant experience and understanding of Systems Engineering, the V-Model and associated processes/lifecycles.
o Experience in writing high quality technical documentation.
o Substantial knowledge of System Engineering practices and technology trends.
o Experience of hands-on development in an embedded environment.
* Desirable:
o INCOSE recognition ASEP or CSEP.
o Experience working as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME).
