This is 10 PA locum appointments for Consultant Anaesthetists. This post will be available as soon as possible for a period of 6 months.
The posts will deliver 10 PAs supporting the anaesthetic team at the Leeds General Infirmary and St James's University Hospital Leeds.
The successful applicants should hold accreditation in FRCA in the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK at the time of interview or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants should have established skills in anaesthesia, excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Main duties of the job
TheTrust as a teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with theUniversity of Leeds, School of Medicine for the undergraduate teaching and allConsultant and medical staff are required to provide an appropriatecontribution to the undergraduate teaching programme.
Thepost-holder will be required to participate in the undergraduate teachingprogramme for the school of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organisedon a speciality or clinical area basis
Thepost-holder will be required to collaborate with clinical colleagues to deliverappropriate undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract withthe NHS Executive in association with the University of Leeds
Theappointee will be expected, with colleagues to also contribute to the teachingof postgraduates, including the teaching programme for SpRs in anaesthesia inthe Yorkshire Deanery.
Towork with other consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensiveanaesthetic service in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.
Tomaintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research already establishedwithin the Trust.
Tosupport service plans for the specialty, taking account of the changes inclinical practice and new technologies available.
Theappointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience andcompetence in all aspects of anaesthesia. It is desirable that the candidateshave experience in the conduct of clinical trials

GeneralTraining and Qualifications

Experience
The appointee must be able todemonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspectsof anaesthesia. It is desirable that the candidates have experience in theconduct of clinical trials.

Clinical Audit
Theappointee will be expected to contribute and, where appropriate, take the leadin the following:
Mortality and morbiditymeetings;
Clinical auditprogrammes;
Development and application of agreedclinical guidelines.
Thisis to be included in allocated time in the individuals job plan as asupporting programmed activity. It wouldbe expected that the time allocated for this would include attendance at therelevant departmental audit meeting(s) and that such attendance would berecorded (in accordance with the Trusts clinical audit policy).
Inthe discharge of these responsibilities the candidate will be expected tomaintain and update his/her skills and knowledge through appropriate continuingmedical education.
TEACHING

Thejob plan review will take place annually, normally with the Clinical Directoror Lead Clinician for Anaesthesia. Theremay be an interim review of the job plan where duties, responsibilities,accountability arrangements or objectives have changed or need to changesignificantly within the area.
Proposed Job Plan
The post consists of 10 PAs with PAsof direct clinical care (DCC) and PA of supporting professional activity(SPA). These 10 PAs will be delivered in anaesthesia
This job plan will fit together withcolleagues job-plans with a careful rota of clinical sessions, to ensurerobust cover.
Accountability
The post-holder is manageriallyaccountable for the use of resources to the Chief Executive and professionallyaccountable to the Chief Medical Officer through Clinical Directors. This may be amended in the light of theTrusts management arrangements.
