Description The Service & Team: This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Cornwall Registration Service to deliver Wedding and Civil Partnership ceremonies. The Registration Service attends more than 3,000 civil weddings and civil partnerships every year. We are the public face of a legal system which provides a key role in the everyday functioning of civic society by recording life events of individuals, such as registering births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships. The Role: Cornwall is a popular wedding destination, and we are looking for people with a flexible approach to work to join our busy ceremony team. Couples can hold their ceremony at a variety of venues such as registration offices, castles, stately homes, vineyards, working farms, feasting barns as well as subtropical gardens, wildlife sanctuaries and engine houses. No two days are the same and every ceremony is unique. The Recording Officer oversees the legal aspects of the ceremony and is responsible for registering the marriage/civil partnership on the national data base and issues the relevant certificates. We have positions available for Ceremony Registrars (Recording Officers) to register weddings in Truro, Penzance and Saltash. Please note Saltash is currently based in Liskeard. Working Pattern: The role will commence in February 2025 with training and work shadowing, with an expectation of being competent in the role by Easter 2025. We offer: Fixed term 9-month contract with potential to convert to a permanent contract. Starting Hourly rate: £13.18 Ceremony Work is seasonal. April to October being the main wedding season and leave in this period is limited to 2 working weeks. Successful applicants will be able to select a 28 day working pattern. During the months of May to October (inclusive) you must provide a minimum of three out of four Saturdays. There is no guarantee of work each week other than 2 hours per month for administration purposes. What you’ll need to succeed: We are looking for people that enjoy working as part of a team in a supporting role. You will be a compassionate and resilient individual with experience of working with members of the public, and most importantly, in customer facing roles. The successful candidate will need to have a professional manner and appearance. They will be self-organising, able to work with minimal supervision, have strong communication, negotiation and diplomatic skills. Ceremonies don’t always go as planned, so experience of problem solving would be an advantage. They will need to be confident in using excel, data bases, outlook and online diaries. They also need to have a flexible approach to working arrangements and be capable of the fulfilling the travel requirements as many of our venues are inaccessible by public transport.
