We’ve an exciting opportunity for a Divisional Harbour Master covering the East Anglia region to join the ABP team. The main purpose of the role is the management of the Marine function in Ipswich, King’s Lynn and Lowestoft reporting into the Divisional Port Manager. You’ll lead the people aspect, Harbour authority, health and safety and other Marine related duties. You’ll need to have broad marine experience with the ability to demonstrate commercial acumen and an eye for growth opportunities.
Key Accountabilities
1. Assist and support all East Anglia Marine roles in coordinating all Marine Operations safely, efficiently and in line with relevant legislation, statutory guidance and ABP Risk Assessment and safety policy.
2. Act in the capacity of Harbour Master in accordance with the terms of the appropriate regulating legislation.
3. Assist with the management of the Port Emergency, Waste, O.P.R.C. Flood Contingency and Business Continuity Plans whilst limiting and improving environmental impact.
4. Manage and lead the East Anglia Marine Team to drive business professionally and successfully, encouraging development and open communication. You must manage all aspects of people from absence, employee relations, concerns, engagement, communication and more.
5. Monitor and manage the implementation of the Marine Safety Management System in accordance with the requirements of the Port Marine Safety Code.
6. Advise the Divisional Port Manager, East Anglia and line management on matters of Compliance, H&S & ISPS by keeping abreast of changes in legislation & codes of practice and security requirements which may impact on ABP.
7. Produce outstanding results both professionally and personally by directing and overseeing all Port services in accordance with strategic objectives. Effectively plan, budget, track, evaluate and drive business performance.
8. Advise local port management on HSES best practice, benchmarking and performance, including the preparation of relevant KPIs and formal monthly reports.
9. Any other Port responsibilities and duties as and when required.
10. Experience of Management and the marine/ports industry.
11. Excellent leadership skills including various communicative styles to suit audience and the ability to influence, engage and coach the East Anglia team.
12. Thorough Knowledge of the Port Marine Safety Code and relevant marine, harbour, H&S and environment legislation (training can be provided for the right candidate).
13. Experience in Health and Safety/Compliance standards and implementation of relevant legislation updates.
14. The ability to balance stakeholder demands with regard to safety and commercial awareness.
15. Competent in IT systems and productivity software.
16. Have a flexible approach to service delivery and working hours, including a willingness to travel within ABP and further afield on ABP Wales and Short Sea Ports business.
17. Full UK driving Licence.
